Today at work I told folks I’ve got a deposit from someone to buy my Jeep, and I’m going to !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . To sum up his words:
“You’re going to buy a used BMW, that BMW can’t sell on its own because of a recalled shrapnel-throwing airbag, off some guy, sight unseen except for pictures, that you haven’t driven, and put it on a truck here? I’m sure that’ll work out perfectly for you. That’s ballsy.”
To which I responded,
“But it’s blue!”
UPDATE: Much props to MUSASHI66 who !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ! I had already asked the guy for his service records which he was going to to get from BMW of San Diego but now he’s going there to do a PPI as well. Perfect!

He’s just afraid of a “used BMW” like most people are afraid of “the boogeyman” haha great car I’m sure you’ll love it.

It’s a 2000 mile, 29 hour drive. I found a cheap 1-way flight, but by the time I pay for gas, at least 1 maybe 2 nights in a hotel, it’s not that much cheaper than shipping. I don’t want to spend the time or put the mileage on the car anyway.

Are you having a PPI done by a 3rd party you paid for? If not, ballsy is not the right word...

Have you at least done a skype walkaround or seen videos of it? It is already mentioned but having a third party PPI is money well spent, even if you have to throw the guy a few bucks for his time.

To be honest, I hadn’t thought of this, and I may well ask the seller to take it to a shop for one. Nothing’s final on the paperwork so still time.

You haven’t mentioned money, but I presume this car is $25-35k, right? I bought a car sight unseen, but it was 6 months old and had 5900 miles on it, plus full factory warranty and a clean CarFax. I figured, what’s the worst that can happen? So far so good, but no way I would have done that for an older car with more miles than that.

As a bimmer owner in the San Diego area, let me know if you want a PPI done, or where to go for it. I’d also happily take it for a “test drive,” for... you know... your benefit :)

Yeah you’re in the right ballpark for price. I talked to the seller and he’s going to take it to his local BMW dealer for a PPI.

“It’s a 2000, 29 hour drive.” - I read that in a very different way than I think it was meant. As in, I'm thinking 2000 miles of nothing but driving in my new goddamn car, woohoo!

Meh, it’d only be enjoyable if it were a nice leisurely road trip with opportunities to do fun stuff. But I have a bunch of other time off from work already planned this year, so I’d have to fly out on a Friday, pick up the car, and drive straight through the whole rest of the weekend with minimal stops for food and gas. That really doesn’t appeal to me.
