Everyone here’s that the Abarth engine will be in an Italian-styled Miata and looses their shit. The numbers were released, everyone still loved it! Wait, you’re telling us it will be “cheaper” than expected and actually compete with the Miata? Nah, I don’t want it anymore. Give me that NA 4-cyl. The power band is probably whack, and I bet it’s heavier because they put “luxury” options in it, plus reliability.
So, a turbocharged Italian Miata comes out being a more affordable car than you expect. Nope, don’t want it! Now there’s brand snobbery against Fiat. We knew this thing was going to be a mini-GT, like a Z4 or SLC.
This is exactly like how everyone said the BRZ would be the real enthusiast choice over the Toyota 86. We even bragged when Subaru was keeping up with the Toyota’s sales. I’m throwing in my Jalop keys, I can’t keep up with what we want and don’t want anymore.

I’ll safely bet the Miata will weigh less and be more reliable. Still happy to see such an option but...i’ll pass

Its a less common, better sounding Miata .... I am VERY happy about that.
I cant wait to test drive one this summer. I should actually sign up for that.

Why would you expect a logical thought?
Edit/afterthought - people bitch and moan about safety and fuel economy regulations but pine after cars from the 80s and 90s.......which are as good as they are because of those regulations. So maybe that’s why everyone wants to buy it used - because then the regs it was designed under will be old so they are allowed to like it now. I KNOW I will see people waxing poetic about the toyobaru in two decades and wondering why enthusiasts of 2015 didn’t “get” it.

Now is when I start convincing my dad that an Abarth is in fact a good idea (he already wants one, when I was young he had a tan 124 as well as a blue/green (paint was shot, my memory tells me it was blue, my dad says it was green) 124 parts car that used to be my grandfathers). Hopefully I can convince him to buy one and pass his 2013 BRZ onto me.

You’re insane! BRZ forever.
Heck, I’ve even got a BRZ bumper cover you can have for free to cleanse yourself of your Scion-ness. A few scrapes but that’s just from doing REAL ENTHUSIAST things. ;)

Well, I for one love that thing, and if I didn’t need backseats for when I pick up the kids at school I would for sure buy the Abarth version for my next car.
I will probably end up with a BRZ so there ha ha

It does have only 5 more hp but it also has 30+ torque that comes on at a lower rev range, so yeah there’s that!
