So my car is paid off and since I’m no longer living at home, I should be on my own insurance and put the car in my name. The title should be here in the coming weeks, but my registration was up this month so my mom got it registered. Now, I need to have it inspected but in NH you have 10 days from registration to get the inspection done. Enter my question:
Assuming the title gets here before the 10 days are up, do I have to inspect it before my second registration in as many months? If I get the title after the inspection, do you think my mechanic would charge me for a second inspection when it will have been done on the same car for the same person in the same month? Would I even need a second inspection or would it be good for both?

I can’t comment on NH specifically, but the inspection in most other states I’ve lived in (pa currently) stays with the car. If ownership is transferred, the car doesn’t need to be reinspected until the sticker date.
Why do you need to change the registration? Who is the car going to be titled to? Would your mom be willing to stay on the insurance with you for the next year and then re-title closer to next year’s registration date?

If you have the inspection certification from the first one still, most jurisdictions will say an inspection is valid for up to a year, and will honor inspections from other jurisdictions. But this is likely a question only your DMV can officially answer.

Off topic but I saw NH and had to comment.
How do you like it? We are looking into moving up there and it seems so perfect.

Perfect how? I’m in southern NH and it’s pretty different from up north.

It does depend on the state. In MA, where I live (howdy, neighbor), you have to reinspect anytime the car gets reregistered, no matter how recently it was last inspected, because the state wants to make more money off you. Maine, however, honors other state inspections, so when I lived there and got a Miata that had been recently inspected in RI, I didn’t have to worry about it for a while. I never once got pulled over in that car, despite it being blatantly obvious that I didn’t have a Maine sticker because it was in a different place on the windshield.

Aren’t inspections good for so many days? If so, then as long as it’s within that window, you should be fine.

I’m in Florida now. I hate the weather the people, the roads, just about everything

I moved here a couple years ago, and I love it. I spend a lot of time up north when I can though, it’s better up there. (better = quieter, prettier, more laid back)

NH born and raised, so I’m biased, but I like it. Weather can be unpredictable to say the least though. I like that it can be cold in the mornings during the summer though if I want to avoid the heat.

The title is in my mom’s name and I want it in my name to make it easier when I sell it, either when I get a new truck or after if my girlfriend wants to avoid taking on another payment when she turns in her lease.

I live in north central MA. Western MA or NH are the first place I go when I head out on the bike. NH is nice. No sales tax, but I understand they nail you on property tax, which is huge in some of the touristy areas like the Lakes Region. Good roads, reasonable speed limits, but you end up traveling in long lines of traffic going 10 under because one idiot doesn’t want to drive a reasonable speed.

My cousin drove around in Texas for two years with expired Oklahoma plates and no inspection sticker (OK doesn’t require it).
She returned to Oklahoma, got pulled over for expired plates and had her car impounded. Dumbass.
