Today’s question is as follows. What automotive styling feature should either die or make a comeback? Personally, I think big fins and general spaceshippery should return. While they will never reach the sizes of those back in the heyday of fins, they would be fun touch on a modern car. I believe that they could be nice in moderation. What do you think should die or be reborn?

I think they would seem gaudy and garish. With good reason ;)
Targa tops. All the benefits of a folding hard-top, none of the weight and complexity issues. Surely it can’t be that hard to make them seal properly.

The Jeep Wrangler Hardtop sort of has one. The panel above the front seats separates and can be stored.

Those lift out panel roofs are similar to that and on the market now. Still a good point though.

Touch screens should die. Buttons should come back.
Also bench seats in the front.

Curb feelers!
Although today they’d probably have to be power retracting or otherwise have technology added where it isn’t needed.

It’s unfortunate that they were terrible. It's like attaching buckets to the front of your car on the highway. Plus, if the motor has an issue, you suddenly have no lights.

On which cars? There’s a Jeep with a lifout roof thing, but it’s more of a manual sun roof than a true targa.
I’d say the 918 is still a targa, as well as a few niche supercars. But there was a time when companies built them in spades...

Oh pfft. It’s an electric folding hardtop in the guise of a targa. Typical Porsche, more interested in tapping heritage than being accurate.

That’s right. So does the 918, but the 918 is more of a true targa (or t-top).

You just haven’t had it in heavy enough weather ;) Time and time again I’ve been told that a certain car won’t leak. I always eventually find a leak somewhere, if subjected to enough rain.

As the name sort-of implies, it scrapes along the curb when you’re parking so that you don’t touch the wheel on the curb; you hear it inside the car when it touches (metal on concrete/rock) so you know that you’re within x inches of the curb.
They were quite popular when wide whitewalls were all the rage; if you touched those to the curb you could scrape some of the white off and your tire would look like crap.

Cheap base model cars with the highest performance engines that can be stuffed under the hood. I’m talking Chevy Biscayne style crank Windows, manual seats, vinyl “rubber” floors.. Nothing but the bare minimum until you pop the hood.

Headlight covers and whitewall tires. I want a Rolls Royce Phantom or a Navigator with Whitewalls and Headlight covers consarn it!
As for what needs to die. Twenty inch rims as standard for most upscale vehicles. I don't care what you do to them, they're uncomfortable and will pop like a kid's balloon in a cactus field if they go over something at a wrong angle.

More interior colors. The basic black, gray, or tan is getting old. And I don’t mean just offer red too for a sport model or something. I mean a near rainbow of colors. There was a time when you could get a black, tan, red, white, blue, or green (and others) interior on the same model for all trims for that model year.

The wedge never left us.
Look at damn near every car made today. They’re all swept up at the back in a wedge shape (some more than others).
The swage line that runs the length of the body tends to start touching the front wheelarch and then rises as it goes back til it’s about 6" or more above the rear wheelarch.
What's really missing is low front ends. Everything style-wise could be sorted by not giving a toss if they cut up pedestrians when you hit them...

The rears are too round. Cars no longer resemble their doorstop bretheren.
We need the true wedge to come back and dethrone the faux wedge.

“Stop-Start” makes little sense. Engine shuts off while you’re waiting / idling at an intersection to save gas.
