I remember you, Aerostar.
I worked in the campus mail center when I was in college. Our pickup/delivery vehicle was a beat up old Aerostar. That thing was such a tank. Took all kinds of abuse from idiot college kids and just kept going.

It shared a lot of parts with the Ranger so it would make sense it was durable

The Aerostar is a good example of why being good enough isn’t good enough. It was, as far as minivans go, good enough, but it wasn’t a pioneer like Chrysler’s offerings or fucking rad awesome kickass like the “mid mounted, RWD minivan motherfucker” Previa. It was just a good minivan, and that just wasn’t enough to be great.

They seem to rust right up to the windows, but run forever. A friend had a panel-van version with a 5 speed. that would be the coolest aerostar.

I remember you Aerostar. You were the Windstar’s ugly, uncomfortable, more van-like older brother.

I friend had one of these for a short while in college. We beat the ever living shit out of it. There were a few drainage dips in the streets throughout town that were uncomfortable at 10-15 mph, pretty rough at 15-20 mph, and downright treacherous at 20+ mph, and we would hit those, with a van full of guys going at least 30. It was a riot. I remember one particular time I was sitting on the floor in the back (because of course I was) with a friend and we hit them going I’m not sure how fast. All I remember is my head hit the roof, my side hit the floor, my ass hit the roof, and I fell back on top of my friend. Ahh, good times.... good times....
It was also white, and had a broken window that was replaced with cardboard with a mail slot for visibility. A few of the guys kept stealing the windshield wipers off it and put the wipers up every time they went buy it. We also wrote free candy and creepy van stuff in all the dirt on it.

My parents had one, sadly I don’t remember it as I was too young. I still see some around.

I was researching on how to remove the engine from one today. Thank god I dont have to work on one. You know im a mechanic when I randomly search how to remove an engine from a random vehicle :D
You have to take the frame off like the econolines or remove the whole front of the van to do any kind of minor work. No wonder why I dont see many anymore.

My parents rocked two of them growing up. I loved the thing. Replaced by a baller-trim ‘01 Astro that I loved even more.

The Auto Tech shop teacher at my high school had one for a while. It had the roof chopped off as well as the space between the front doors and rear wheels removed. The thing was hilarious.

Most hated van ever. Grew up with one, super unreliable. Last domestic our family ever owned.

Surprisingly enough that didn’t kill it. He brought it back to his family farm where it lived a while longer.

Lots of memories for me. Family got one reasonably new in early 90s (I want to say 93-94) and was super impressed by the rear seat entertainment controls. We ended up touring all over the US eastern seaboard and atlantic Canada on family roadtrips. So much spilled crap in the back...
