So this storm should be done this evening with beautiful but breezy weather for this weekend. Early tomorrow morning I plan on flying from KBTF, to KDTA, to Ibex in the Tule Valley. I’ll be out there for the next few days camping and flying. My wife will be driving out in our support vehicle with the heavy stuff and more toys. It should be a blast with a number of friends and other families.

The flying should be great. I’ll give everybody rides and practice a ton of landings.

Oppo, what else should I do with a plane and a lake bed?

Dropping toilet paper and chopping it with a number of passes is always fun.

What else should we do?

That’s a great trip. I think you have everything covered, so just go enjoy. Keep the shiny side up.

Have them draw a line and see how close you can land on it.

Flour bombs!

Have a massive drag race and film it.

Will do. :) With a tail wind of 10kts, I’ll just take my time. Nice cool temps too, it should be great.

That’s perfect. I went up Saturday just to circle my house and a few other houses. Got lucky with a storm coming in just a few hours later that I had a 15-20 kias tailwind both ways. KBJC to my house took 12 minutes at 105 kias and it’s normally a 35 minute drive. By the time I got back to the field, winds were 250@19g22 and the active was 30R/L.

That was a challenge but probably my best landing ever. Windshear had us doing +/- 15 kias at 500ft agl so I did 80 over the fence. Got to the 1000ft marker and doing 60 kias. Stall horn right as the upwind main touched down. Simply perfect.

Now it’s time to start the solo xc preparation. So much to do to finish my certificate.

There’s a straight shot across the flats at 1.75 miles. That would make for a mean drag race.

DO IT

Sometimes I drag race the planes on the road next to the airport just because I feel like it. I’ve never lost to a Cessna, but that MD-90 is undefeated

Get that license done!

I’m so excited for this trip. There will be a lot of people to donate to my rental/fuel costs but I’m just excited to take all my friends flying! This 172 has a useful load of 1,010 pounds and so I’ll be able to take even the big guys with a kid in the back seat. There’s no other traffic, specific runway, airport fence, or taxiways. We’ll just have a giant lake bed all to ourselves. With the moon at 90% on Sunday, I wonder If I should knock out of my three-night landings. I’m going to bring a bunch of solar lights to mark off a threshold.

I’m rotating at 69 MPH and climbing out at 90 MPH. It could be a good race against the dirt bikes.

That’s amazing. The only thing stopping me is money. I soloed about 6 months ago now. I just need a few thousand dollars to finish up.
