So, this was a very fun weekend. Having got up and left the house at some ungodly hour (well, 6am, but still, early for a weekend), I headed across the channel to finally do some laps of the Ring. I’ve been twice before but both have been for the 24hr race so the track is closed to the public for good reason.
The S2000 in good company at Folkstone Eurotunnel depot, at about 8am on Saturday.
The Eurotunnel does make crossing the channel much easier, and this time of year its quite cheap so makes sense. Also its way faster than the ferry which is handy for a flying visit.
The cross channel view isn’t what you’d call thrilling.
The only drawback with the tunnel is it is rather dull.
Lovely french service station. The toilets were closed. I wish I hadnt gone round the back but I needed to pee. Was like a medieval sewer back there.
Not quite the romantic road trip through the french countryside though. Lovely French aire, just outside Calais.
Standard Nurburgring shot.
As I was at the ring, I had to take this shot. Its just a right of passage.
During one of the many track stoppages I wandered down to Stielstreke (sp?)
And up to the Karrusel. I will admit that I didn’t drop into the karrusel on my laps. Was planning to on Sunday Morning when it was quiet, but I dont think the GT-R that was chasing me would of approved.
Cooling down after a lap on Sunday Morning.
I only did 2 laps over the two days. I know the course, in that I know which way the corners go, but nothing can really prepare you for the camber, the completely blind apexes, and just how quick most of the other cars are. So I spent almost all my lap on Saturday watching my mirrors and desperately trying to A: not crash, and B: not get in anyones way.
Sundays lap was much more enjoyable, as it was quieter. Id recommend going early, I was out on track at about 8.40 Sunday morning and it was quieter and alot easier to concentrate. The only asterisk is that those who are out on track are going quick.
I did think about staying and doing more laps Sunday, but I have to say it was surprisingly hard work, and I really REALLY didn’t want to crash, and thought 2 laps was enough. So headed north into Belgium, to Zolder.
Zolder was hosting the FIA historic masters, which had F1, SportsCars, and BELCAR, which is like a mixed GT race for Belgium. Less words from this point, more pictures (on my camera, rather than my phone...)
Yardly Mclaren Oppo!
Ecoboost Mustang, looked good, sounded wrong...
The pitlane and buildings looked really cool. The circuit itself was a bit dilapidated, but still an awesome place to spend a Sunday
Racing X-Bow = Awesome
Glowing brakes. Hard to catch facing directly into the sun.
Paddock post the F1 race looking cool.
Daytona Coupe had a bit of a boop with another car.
Yep, thats a canal in the background. Zolder is about 20/30 mins from the NL boarder, and about 30% of the carpark as dutch. The rest Belgium, with a couple of Germans, and then one Brit (me)
5 Big Beasty Lola T70 MKiii made some serious noise.
Seems a little mean to dump the car by the bins, just because it broke it in the race.
So yeah, that was a really rather awesome weekend.

Nice, didn’t know there were historic races on Zolder this weekend, if I had known that I would have dropped by, since it is only about an hour away from me.
BTW the Oppo 3D logos still aren’t here, I’m afraid the mail messed up :(
