Afternoon Oppositelock,
I am upgrading from shooting on a 6S to a Nikon 3200 DSLR, and was looking for any basic tips or tricks to shooting autos.
I started using Lightroom, but dont understand it.

Not a huge fan of the water mark. If you’re going to have one at all make it smaller and not as tacky.

Working on using this as a watermark. Same picture that is my avatar.

I'd avoid using that... let's just say that people may confuse what it means.

Shared this to Photography.kinja for you. I'm making dinner right now so I can't go into specifics and I'm just an amateur as well. Hopefully the photogs come in and comment.

I’m an amateur myself but I found this series to be very helpful when learning Lightroom.
Other than that, I suggest playing with the settings and maxing them out to see what they do. Then edit based on what looks best to you. There really is no right way of doing it.

First of all, nice body! now to invest in great Lens(es?)
From what I’ve done regarding automobile photography, its all about getting out the lines out of the car, which to my eyes is basically experimenting a lot with framing and focal length as to get the right impression out of said car, if you are photographing a lambo, try to get all those straight lines and shapes out of it while making it look “mean” but if you are shooting an MK4 Golf, you can try and make your composition more soothing/relaxed.
Just get to learn photography basic stuff like rules and such and apply them to the cars.
Also, a nice example of how focal length affects your subject.

For shooting cars a circular polarizer is a must. They allow you to control or eliminate refections and highlights. For example without one the Aston would of had a refection of the car parked next to it in the door. The circular polarizer eliminated the refection. For the GT.350 interior I was able to move the polarizer around until I got a nice highlight on the dash. The only other thing I can say is learn as much as you can about light and have fun!

Shooting static or moving cars?
Moving cars requires the proper shutter speed depending on what you are looking for.
Static subjects I like a wider lens.
Other than that, take a ton of shots. Practice makes perfect. You will get the hang of it.

Yea, would love to share what I shoot, and get feedback.
Got a rat rod/hot rod show, and a shoot with an Accord this weekend.

It depends on what size your lens is. Normally the size is listed on the inside of the lens cap.

I used both light room and photoshop. It really depends on the application for anything more than basic editing I use photoshop.
