As a local (and as an Internet user) I’m a bit surprised that I’ve never heard of !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! until I drove past it yesterday. So I googled it, and apparently a fan made a (some might say racist) commercial for them that has made some rounds on Reddit. The company doesn’t seem to mind the commercial. I was hoping for some more comedians on !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
Don’t worry if you get some donut glaze or soy sauce on you shirt, you can just throw it in the wash!

No. The best donuts are ALWAYS a single mom-n-pop shop owned/staffed by a Chinese family. I don’t know why this is true but my empirical observations over the years have proved the theory.

This is empirically true, however mom-n-pop donut shops don’t sponsor a bunch of racecars that I happen to see and root for all the time.

That’s usually true. But I’ve found a single shop owned by a young tattooed woman:
http://www.gloryholedoughnuts.com/about-us/
to have the absolute best doughnuts.

I still can’t believe there was a TV show about glory holes ( Gold Rush ). I couldn’t watch the clips on The Soup without laughing like a juvenile.

Ok, now we’re talking about (aboot?) a completely different category of donut. I’m talking about honest-to-goodness regular donut shops. You’re trying to compare HipsterDonuts, which is not even fair. HipsterDonuts are the kind that are in trendy shops in the trendy neighborhoods and cost ~$3 each or ~$25-$30 a dozen. That’s like comparing a burger from a high-end restaurant to In-N-Out; yes, the fancy burger is better but it damn well should be at the price they charge. I don’t know about you, but I rarely eat $17 burgers. Same deal with donuts. Dollars (Loonies?) to donuts (heh), if I am buying a dozen donuts for the family on a Saturday morning, I’m not going to the HipsterDonut shop downtown, waiting in line (because they are always busy), only to get frustrated because they’ve run out of the superawesome donut I saw in that photo on Yelp! and then have to pay $30 for the pleasure. I’m going to the mom-n-pop donut shop owned by the weird Chinese family that makes amazing regular donuts for $10 a dozen.

I agree with all you said. Glory Hole Doughnuts is definitely a premium hipster place. And to make matters worse, they often run out of doughnuts by the afternoon... and I don’t mean one flavour. I went there once in the late afternoon and they didn’t have a single doughnut left. None. Nada. Zero. Zilch. Nichts. Not even a damn plain doughnut (which they don’t make anyway).
So yeah, for ‘normal priced’ doughnuts, the Asian-family-run places are the best.
Some bakeries are quite good too, but more in a pastery kind of way.
Now here is the thing... I want to lose 10 pounds. Because of that, doughnut consumption cannot be a regular thing for me. So when I get doughnuts these days, I go for the good stuff since I buy them infrequently.

And that is perfectly understandable. If you’re gonna cheat, make it count!

Ah, Rainier Avenue, eh? I’m tempted to go there except my first impression of that particular stretch of road was watching someone attempting to carjack a Honda Civic.

It’s not the nicest area.
