We all have those cars. I’ll show you mine, you show me yours.

First: BMW 6 series/M6 Gran Coupe (also 4 series Gran Coupe)

Both of these are curiosities, being a 4 door version of a 2 door version of a 4 door car. Technically, at least for the 6 as I have read that it was the coupe version of the 5 series, and I don’t really see it/never thought of it that way but I digress. However, going on that, they are both way more attractive than their original 4 door counterpart, in my opinion. I don’t even care that there isn’t a manual.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Next, the Audi SQ5. It gets points for being almost an Avant when we’ll never get an avant in the US again (still holding out hope for the B9 S4/RS4). Plus, it can be made to handle decently well, and dat S4 engine though! I think this is a Q5 but same idea

Kinja'd!!!

Am I an oddball? Irrational? Not a real car guy because they aren’t Miatas?

That’s a good start. I’ll add this. Why do I hate Hummer H2s, but love the Raptor so much?

The Ford Flex. it’s weird, but if you get 2nd row bench seats you get a flat load floor, and it’s pretty space efficient inside. Why the bulky, claustrophobic Explorer sells so much better than it is beyond me.

The Kia Soul

I have no business liking this car. It doesn't really get great gas mileage, and it is quite anemic. I love the fact that this car can carry a huge amount of stuff with the seats removed. It's like a mini-minivan. I wish the boxy wagon was offered by more automakers, but alas the Soul is it.

In a world where people (not car-people) want the biggest car for the money, the Explorer wins over the Flex.

I share your opinion on the 6 series Grand Coupe. Although the idea is dumb, it’s a great looking car. I also love the Kia Soul. I think it’s pretty good looking, offered in some fun colors. I may even replace the family Hyundai with one in the near future.

Because the Raptor is more capable than the vehicle it’s based off of.

I have some.

The Chevy HHR SS. It is shit car, it is ugly, but it can go like hell and nobody expects it too.

Kinja'd!!!

The Plymouth Prowler. It is typical early 2000's Chrysler, has a laggy automatic, but can do 0-100kph in under 6 seconds.

Kinja'd!!!

one more. The Chevy SSR. It is trying hard to be retro, like that old man driving it living “his young glory days”. It came with a 400hp LS1 and 6spd manual, that is to love.

It’s a cheap, simple, reliable car that does what it's intended to: get owners from point a to point b while not costing much and not using much gas. A dedicated highway cruiser it is not. A luxury car, it is also not. But a no-frills runabout that comes with a warranty? Ding ding ding. It doesn't deserve the hate it gets.

So you like a sedan that became a coupe and then became a sedan again?

And you like a fatbodied, lifted wagon that was robbed of all handling but has been lowered to try to regain some handling?

People hate on the mirage? I thought most people loved those things. It’s lighter than anything else on the market.

M6 GC is phenomenal. No shame there, and it technically has a manual available until the end of this year (though the take rate of ~0% will make them hard to find).

Love, LOVE that car.

Most internet reviewers aside from Jalopnik have ranted about it. I personally think the Mirage is a decent car for what it is.

There is absolutely no reason why I should like a Malibu Maxx SS, but for some insane reason I’ve always like the body shape:

Lincoln Mkt, it can come with a twin turbo v6 and is so comfortable it feels like a cloud. It is actually quite fast and can be tuned to be an absolute rocket.

Above is why I should hate them all. I agree with everything you are saying. The GC’s just look so good to me. The SQ5 not so much but it’s one I’ve been thinking about. I don’t think I’d ever end up purchasing one though.

The Ranult Kangoo, Citroen Berlingo and their ilk. Hateful vehicles for people who hate driving and clog up the roads.

But can you really hate a car with a no-nonsense attitude to motoring and almost endless versatility at very reasonable prices?

I know a guy who had a gorgeous, custom spec, c6 corvette and thought it was not unique enough so he went and bought a Plymouth prowler for the reason that “It is rare”.

They made an SS version of the Maxx? Never knew that. I too always loved the body style, even though the car was a POS.

It’s a stupid ridiculous thing to like.

Hate me if you want, remove my Jalopnik Gold Membership but I love the Prius especially all the size variants. Any excuse for a cheap, versatile, reliable and fuel efficient cars is fantastic.

The US hates hatchbacks except for the Prius apparently

I do however agree that the newest Prius is hideous.
