Time for a little Peugeot.
Or maybe not. Meet the Syrena 104.
Pic by Cezary Piwowarski - Own work
Made in Warsaw by Fabryka Samochodw Osobowych, mercifully called FSO, the 104 was one of a series of Syrenas which were made from 1957 to 1983. Models 100 to 103 had a twin cylinder two stroke, but the 104 was treated to an 842cc triple, also a two stroke.
Looked like this.
Persons familiar with various Wartburgs, Saabs and Auto Unions might recognise it. Its yet another variation of a prewar DKW engine with individual coils and thermosyphon cooling which required a radiator mounted high and at the back and to go with that a rear mounted fan.
The sharp eyed will notice suicide doors, which continued until the 105 of 1972. If theres a car which used suicide doors after 1972 and before the modern ones like various Royces I cant think of it.

A friend of mine recently married a Polish woman and theyve been going used car shopping. I assume cars like this are why she considers anything with air conditioning to be a luxury car.

They restored one of these on Wheeler Dealers awhile back - love it! It ticks all the quirky boxes I like! :D

Fair enough though - if you dont live somewhere hot a/c isnt much of an issue. Its only since the 2000s that its become common where I am and small cars like the Fiesta dont have it on basic models.
