It wasn’t my intention to take a poll, but another star came out of the blue to remind me of this old comment (and give me an excuse to play around with Kinja’s new !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ):

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

After six months, “votes” have slowed to a mere trickle, and the results speak for themselves:

Kinja'd!!!

That’s approxamitely 84.6% in favor of the Flex’s styling, 15.4% opposed. Not bad, Ford.

I was very close to buying one, but couldn’t get all of the things I liked without having to get the touchscreen stuff for A/C and radio, which I believe to the very core of my being that they should always be a knob, like me. Also, the deal I got on the CPO Town&Country was too hard to beat for something that didn’t do 7 passengers daily all that well.

Personally, I prefer the older styling.

Fortunately, this is the Flex that parks in my driveway.

This is kind of erie, because not 15 minutes before I saw this, I built and priced a new Flex on Ford.com. Man I wish I could affords it!

it’s too bad. The Flex is a car everyone says they like, but nobody buys.

It’s basically a wagon, and if I remember correctly, you can get the V6 ecoboost.

For the most part I like all Fords. For some reason I do not like any of the box cars. I am a little torn, I want to say I like the Flex, but box car-ish. It’s not so bad though, I mean, it’s a lot better than a regular box car and I’m sure a lot more functional.

Edit: Ack, I mean cube car, not box car.

The simplicity of its styling is something that I don’t mind admiring from afar. It’s okay to like something without owning it.

Wikipedia tells me you’re right: 355 hp!

I haven’t had good luck with late model used. I’ve had really good luck with buying new, and I’ve had really good luck with old beaters, but late model used and I just do not get along.

what boggles me is that even though they share a platform, people buy the bulky, cramped Explorer hand over fist, yet the open, airy, space efficient Flex languishes.

Yup. That’s what my wife chose. There are reasons why I married her.

There are a bajillion 2016 Explorers near me. Like, why are people still buying a five year old car that wasn’t the best in the first place? I know it’s the south, but still.

355 hp stock (though dyno tests have shown that number is actually underrated), but with turbo swaps people have been getting the Flex north of 500 hp

Even in stock form the FlexBoost reaced 60 in under 6 seconds and went through the quarter mile in low 14's/high 13's. I adore the absurd thing.

For the record though, it is well within the capabilities of modern manufacturers to make ugly cars. I present the QX80 as unimpeachable evidence:

I don’t trust them. If I wanted a box, I’d get a 2009-2015 Pilot.

2016 was a mid-cycle action (MCA) for the Explorer, it’s not a five year old vehicle.

the 6F55 transaxle is input torque limited to about 360 lb-ft, so the PCM has to be a total buzzkill.

I almost bought one last year, but my wife didn’t like the looks, she didn’t even like my SX4. The Flex was the first car I thought of when we decided that we need the interior space of a 7 seater. I was looking at used 2014s in February 2015.

To me the Flex was my choice until we added mpgs and interiors into the mix.
