At about 2:00 PM this afternoon, I paid $3,990 for this 1999 Volvo V70XC with 145,000 miles, and drove to my office to finish out the day’s work. So far, so good, right?
At 6:00 PM, on my way home with it for the first time, a cylinder stopped firing and the check engine light came on. I’d guess I put about 35 miles on it before it grenaded.
So, I got that goin’ for me.
UPDATE: The repair shop says I need a new coil and ignition cable and I’m back on the road.

I love these wagons. So you think a major service (plugs, wires, fuel filters, all the rest) will do the trick?

I dont think the v70 did in the US. Last one I think was the 940 or 740. I don’t think the 850 ever got them.

I remember my auto teacher bought one of these last spring and we spent the entire end of the year taking turns putting it back together, a driveshaft, power steering rack, alignment, and washer fluid reservoir later, she was looking pretty good.

I dunno. I was just sitting at a light when it went. It didn’t, you know, throw a rod or anything. I hope it’s a simple fix.

It’s just one cylinder. But, I’ve got rough idle, low power, and a strong smell of gasoline from the exhaust. I’m hoping it’s just a $30 coil.

My hope is lots of basic parts replaced and it runs like a champ again! But I am always that idiot that hopes your shit goes right, and the Volvo soldiers on .... We live in hope.
