It proved to be a much better solution than letting it roll around under the cargo floor.

In other news, I greased my primary hood latch. It was acting up where the primary latch would partially stick open after opening the hood. This was especially true in colder weather. I was usually able to get the latch to close properly with a bit of effort, however, the final straw was when it decided to pop on the Turnpike (thank you, secondary latch). Now that it’s greased, it’s working flawlessly.

I feel like the story of bottle holders might be the most boring story ever told. “Gather around children, and hear tell of the time I kept a bottle of Diet 7up from rolling around...”

So boring, in fact, that I can’t find any information on the history of the bottle holder.

I really should grease my hood latch. It releases, but never pops up. Some percentage of the time, it will stay unlatched so you can pull the hood up and then release the rest of the way, but never when I want it to.

That’s sort of what mine was doing, but you could force the hood up to the secondary latch to open it. The odd thing was that usually driving ~300 ft (the distance from the gas station to the grocery store parking lot) would cause the hood to latch properly.

When I pull the release in my crown vic, the does the THUNK but doesn’t move, there’s a special spot on the corner of the hood you bang on to make it pop up.

The reaction of the guy at the alignment shop when he couldn’t open it after a couple minutes struggling and I came out of the waiting room and had it up in 4 seconds was fantastic.

Maybe I should grease it.

I bet!

With mine you had to pull up on the hood until you hit the secondary latch to get it to pop up. That wasn’t really an issue. The real issue was that when closing the hood (following the procedure owner’s manual * ) the hood would bounce off of the primary latch. You could push it closed, but you could still pull the hood up to the secondary latch. It would only latch properly after driving for ~300 ft.

I keep a compact umbrella on one side and my reusable grocery bags on the other. Handy things, those bottle holders.
