This is my second year going. Before last year’s, I had never even heard of it, so it was a real thrill factor to go; less so this year. But still not to be missed!
Most likely future Yitzmobile
V6 Camaro RS. I sat in the Corvette right before it though, and I must say those were some nice seats. Maybe in 15 more years...
Biggest disappointment
No Toyota S-FR concept car! No Toyota S-FR concept car!!!
The people in the Toyota section didn’t even know what I was talking about.
Biggest relief
The Buick Avista concept was there. As nice as advertised.
Best thing that wasn’t a car
This animatronic (i.e. moving and blinking) Cadillac supercharged LT4 engine model. (Kinja is having problems with orientation metadata; sorry...)
Biggest Scumbag Steve move
BMW brought an M1, but it was upstairs in the lounge for viewing by BMW owners only. Last year they had a bunch of heritage motorsports cars down on the floor; I seem to recall both racing and stock 2002's.
Most better-looking in person
The Ford GT. Amazing. Still looks a bit reptilian, but not as much as in photos.
!!! UNKNOWN HEADER TYPE (MULTI-LINE BREAK?) !!!
The Toyota 86. “Finally a sports car returns to the Toyota lineup!” the spokesperson kept saying.
Sexiest
Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale (?)
Most improved
NSX GT3
Worst impression
Porsche, who locked the GT4 and put the only Boxster (718) on a closed platform. No heritage cars either.
Most bang for the floor space
Lotus, whose entire exhibit was the Evora 400, but WHOSE ENTIRE EXHIBIT WAS THE EVORA 400!
Classiest
Volvo P1800 (?)
Most pathetic
Mitsubishi, allll the way back in the back of the annex. Poor Mitsubishi!
Best of Show
Chitty Chitty MF’ing Bang Bang.

Are Porsches ever open at the auto show? This year will be the first NY show I go to. I’ve been going to the (suckass) Philly show for years. No Porsches, Ferraris, Lotus, Lambo, Aston Martin, Bentley, Rolls Royce or 100k plus cars were ever open. Hell, you couldn’t even touch any of them. So, this is not a big deal to me.
How long did the show take you to do?

The people in the Toyota section didn’t even know what I was talking about.
Did these people appear to actually work at Toyota, or were they just the attractive people hired to work trade show booths and given very set/limited information on the models on display?

I was there two hours. Yeah, I don’t know; I sort of understand not having really exotic cars open, but most of the Porsches don’t qualify IMO. But maybe it’s a branding thing, “we’re so exclusive you can’t even sit it us, plebe.”

Makes sense.
Working in the auto industry and having attended trade shows, as an employee, I know to always seek out someone who looks like they actually work directly for the company. There’s usually at least a couple of people from PR/Marketing or Product Management at the booth.

IIRC the entry level models (boxter, cayman, 2017 carrera) were unlocked at the Toronto show but the cayennes, macans, 911 turbo, and gt4 clubsport were all locked. There was a mock 919 present, tho.
If you dont mind braving the cold (mid-feb) and hopping borders, CIAS took me 7 hours to shoot photos and traverse the 6 (5?) floors.

Ha. I saw the M1. Sorry for tacky Snapchat caption. I went too far to make myself look cool.

They were open up to last year. I stayed for 6 to 7 hours.

Hey, now, Porsche brought the 911R and left it in the open! Still locked, but at least you could lick it!

I lied my way into the BMW owner’s lounge by showing him a picture of me behind the wheel an E46 that I owned a few years ago.

Not really lying; once you’ve owned one the stink never really wears off ;)
