Customer: Hey, do ya’ll sell them light bulbs that are super bright? On my wife’s truck they put dem light bulbs in it that made them bright and blue? LED’s right?
Me: Like, and after market LED bulb or after-market HID kit (ballast, bulb, etc)?
Customer: Nah I think they just put a bulb in it. Is that the ones they sell at O’Reilly.... Silverstar? Cause they cost like $50 for the set just like her lights. Do ya’ll sell Silverstars here?
Me: Well, we sell just OEM bulbs here
Customer: OEM, yeah it was something like that, 3 letters.
Me: Well, i’m talking like factory lighting. What kind of car do you have?
Customer: I gotta 2004 Mercedes, 4 door
Me: Ok, what model?
Customer: It’s a 2004 4 door Mercedes-Benz. 500 E
Me: Oh ok, do you have the last 8 of the VIN
Customer: What for, it’s just light bulbs?
Me: I have to check what your vehicle has as some 2004 E-class have different set ups and pricing. The VIN # on your insurance card if you have it
Customer: Oh ok yes *pulls out insurance card*
Me: *checks info, turns out his car has factory Xenon* Sir, is one of you headlights out?
Customer: Nah they fine, I just wanna get the one like my wife’s Silverado. Like kinda blue-ish.
At this point I explain that she probably has 5000K or 6000K after market Xenon kits and showed him some pictures on Google in which he confirmed the type of light. I explain his car already has factory Xenon and we only sell factory items. He says he’ll go to the tint/radio shop they got the ones for the Silverado and see if they could make them bluer.

Sell him a blue sharpie and tell him to use the high beams. That's how we rolled in highschool in the 90s.

That's the best way to roll

Am I the only person on earth who has the last 7 digits of their VIN committed to memory?
I continually stun the shit out of the people at the parts counter when I volunteer the info, then rattle off the last 7 digits like it was my middle name.
Probably a byproduct of owning a 18 year old BMW.

I have a credit card-sized card with my vehicle’s pertinent info on it tucked into my wallet right behind the card I most often use to buy shit. That’s as close as I get to memorizing the VIN. Heh.

Once I get the money, I’m upgrading my lights all around to LED. I use my headlights 24/7 and I’m tired of changing the headlight and taillight bulbs every few months.

Check your alternator for overcharging instead, and buy the long life bulbs. Not sure if the Osram 3 year guarentee also exists in the US?

I work in an area that is actually predominantly asian. It’s a very distasteful joke, and I have no regrets.

I can’t say I’ve noticed too much of this. Plenty of people driving with their high beams and/or fog lights on for now reason, and plenty of people driving with one or more bulbs out, but haven’t noticed an epidemic of blue. My neighborhood is relatively tasteful I guess.

Came straight from the manufacturer a couple of weeks after I brought my car home. Now if only the transmission that came straight from the manufacturer actually worked. :P

I put LEDs in my old cars brake lights since they are smaller overall, it really helped. I added another bulb with LEDs to my W123 Merc and it’s much more noticeable. I hate super bright headlights and I think there needs to be an enforced limit. They are fucking ridiculous and dangerous at night in the rain, especially in a low car where they are often in an SUV and pointed right at your face. Fuck the LED brake lights on the German SUVs are so bright they practically blind you being them! Getting down to the Golden Gate bridge in the rain/fog is interesting when a Q7 is braking all the way down, can’t see much.

Yes, in the fog some car’s brakes are insane. When driving the Z4, it seems like every cars has it’s high beams on. When it’s a brotruck with 6000K, it’s the worst of times, and they can care less, bro!

Yeah I’m sitting on the ground in the Z

On the upside it should be pretty easy for him to do it right, he should be able to get 6k replacement bulbs .....but they’ll prolly just put tint on his headlights
![]() 03/25/2016 at 15:13 |
|
I have no clue. There is a difference between $250 OEM Mercedes-Benz bulbs and $15 aftermarket 6000K bulbs (housing, wires)
![]() 03/25/2016 at 15:25 |
|
It is a Merc, but I assumed they used some standard type of base, like an H something or 9000 whatever.
![]() 03/25/2016 at 15:33 |

most come as bulb/ballast assemblies or built in modules. The others are loose bulbs but the twist in to specific metal connectors. I’m not sure how they would do it at the tint/stereo shop lol. Though, his car did have tinted tail lights so tinted headlights would be something catastrophic that wouldn’t surprise me

“Well, do you have an eta when they’ll be back in stock.”
“Unfortunately, there isn’t an eta, it just tells me it’s “under development.”
