Don’t think I ever mentioned this before, but I have a lot of family in good ol’ ‘murica, and one of my American cousins got round to visiting the old country a few months ago...
I’ve only met him a couple of times before, but on his last day here I decided to drive my Fiat to where he was staying. He claimed to b a bit of a ‘gearhead’ so I was quite keen to show him this unusual car he had next to no chance of ever seeing back home. I got there, had some breakfast and then we went out to look at the car. We walked around it, I showed him the engine (he was surprised it was in the arse end of the car), and then the interior. He got in the passenger seat, closed the door and had a look. Then, when I offered him the chance to get behind the wheel, he yanked the door handle and... ripped if off. Seriously. I was wondering why he was taking so long to get out, so I opened the door for him from the outside and carried on as normal. He somehow managed to wedge the broken door handle in the gap so I didn’t notice it right away, but once his dad got round to looking at the car, I got in the passenger seat and the issue became apparent.
Obviously, I didn’t make a big deal out of it (I didn’t even mention it to anybody at the time), but it’s still a slight annoyance. I have to get the door card off (and it’s easy to damage it while doing that) to replace the door handle, luckily the part itself is just over a buck.
I think he was expecting the door to ‘pop out’ once he pulled the handle, like they do in modern cars. Unfortunetely, the 126p is not a modern car by any means and you actually have to push on the door for it to open. :P
I still haven’t gotten round to replacing that door handle...

In hindsight, I should have fed my Fiat burgers so it can build up some bulk.

Yeah... some people break things due to being very careless and ham-handed.
Your cousin should have been more careful given that it’s a fairly old car.

A car from 1999 isn’t really that old, and that door handle was only a few months old at that point as well. I really have no idea how he managed to break it.

It’s weird, my 06 GTO you need to push them open too. No one seems to be able to.

Oh no! That’s unfortunate...I’m surprised the door cards are a bit trickier to get off. On the old 500, it was literally like....two screws...

Seems like it’s the same as the 500 really, the problem is those rails on top and bottom. Door cards don’t bend very well, so the best way is to slide them in, unfortunately it’s kinda easy to damage or bend them while doing so.
