This seems to be the current styling trend. Contour the side of the car so that it looks like a wrench.
The new subaru also features a subtle Asimov, another current trend.

That area below the headlight where everybody is putting tiny grilles or indents, looks like the automotive equivalent of Isaac Asimov’s mutton chops.

While that’s a good description, I think “Mutton Chops” would make sense to a whole lot more people. When I see Asimov, I try to make connections to robots, books, etc...
