LOL, just as well, because the engine is probably from an ’01-’02 as ‘03-’04 were supercharged.

On a closed course it would be fun, but I would not take it on the road. That’s a death trap.

Ford actually sold this as a kit IIRC.

I know they built at least one and took it to autox events in SE Michigan.

I’ve seen a few for sale before, so they are definitely out there.

Solid rear axle on a short wheelbase, skinny rubbered and lightweight car. Hmmm. Could be fun.

I think you mean ‘99/’01, as there really were no 2002's and the 2000 R used the 5.4L.

I remember that car from the FocalJet forums. Solid build if I recall. Would be a lot of fun for a very short time and then you die. Though, someone did build an SC Cobra engined version the was featured in the dearly-departed SCC magainze. I think you can still find the article online in the Super Street archives.

Now my Focus just feels grossly inadequate.

The listing description says that the supercharger was removed.

I remember when they came out with a kit to do this. I think ford released it. Kinda awesome but I would think a much lighter better balanced turbo 4 would be better than this weak heavy 270hp V8 but it is a special kind of awesome. I would add a turbo for hoonage and stoplight laughs.

Kind of, but not quite. The 2000 Mustang Cobra R used a 5.4L based on the truck engines, but had its own heads (which would later be used for the Ford GT).

I remember reading about that kit in Hot Rod or Car Craft back in 2002 or so. I wonder how many were sold.

No clue, but I bet they were fun up until the moment you wrapped it around a tree!
