I love Landies. So I’m always checking CL for a nice one. Today however I found this particular version of the 80 series I believe. Anyway, it’s a heck of a price for a low mileage Land Cruiser, but it’s got cancer. Can it be saved?

I’ve driven this gen, a long time ago. If I’m not mistaken, there is no driver’s side airbag. I’d look for one that at least has that.

That’s an FJ80 and if it runs that’s a great price. Check for rust being that its from Michigan. The engines are bulletproof with basic maintanence.

What you are looking at there my friend is the first year of the fzj80 (not 100 series) so it has the 1fz-fe but with a few goofy emissions control things they later changed, the A442f bus transmission not the newer A343f but with discs all around and a full floater rear axle. This one looks beat to shit and I would guess that the maintenance is current on it. It can be saved but its in for some work. sourcing seats is a bit of a pain, it looks like the sunroof will probably leak and the engine and axles will need to be carefully looked at. I wouldn’t bite but I don’t have the time to take on a special case like that. It would be a great beater truck for NFG driving.

I was waiting to see if you would post. I love these things, but yes, this is beat pretty badly. I’ve never seen one listed this low before, but it makes sense. Do you have a 100 series?

Who cares? At that price you could drive it till you can see the road through the floor panels, then part out the everything that’s still intact from the engine to the Windows and probably make a profit.

I had a black ‘97 LX450 a few (like 3 I think) years ago and I quite liked it. But we just weren’t using it for what it’s meant to do and fuel economy was meh. So I tossed it on craigslist for an above market value price of 12.5k just for funsies. Granted it only had 105k miles, body in pretty good condition with no rust here in california. In 2 days a nice older gentleman came to my house with 12k cash and took it from me. I couldn’t refuse the offer but I was sad to see it go and still miss that car to this day.

Totally restorable! It actually looks in pretty good condition. If you wanted you could take the seats to a local upholstery shop for a good solid price! Honestly for that low of miles (as long as the frame isn’t rusted in two) its a steal!

Yeah, see that is the thing. No frame rust would make this a decent fixxer upper! For the price that some of these go for online it could almost be a nice flip! But all depends on the frame rust..
