I love a good cheeseburger. And I’ve been known to eat a fried food or two. But that is just disgusting.

Well, Easter is round the corner so chippies will be doing deep fried creme eggs.

A deep fried burger is one thing but Scotland has quite a few chippies that deep fried pizzas, deep fried battered pizzas as well as the common deep fried Mars bar.

No, it isn’t, unless you mean “constantly trying crazy new indulgences of food”... to excess. Most people making a gonzo food like this for giggles (or eating it) would not be featured on Honey Boo Boo.

That’s right! We’re number one! Go, us!

But, that burger isn’t my cup of tea. The thickness is mostly bread. I like my burgers beefy with some spicy stuff inside.

The Vulgar Chef is a great website (the origin of the pic) to look at for kicks. I don’t care for a lot of stuff there, but the site does rock it’s theme well.

The Glaswegians (don’t call them Scots; the food everywhere else in Scotland is better than England and closer to continental Europe) really love deep frying everything, it’s true. Don’t they also have the lowest life expectancy in all of the EU?

Let me show you a view of some of Scotland’s fried foods.

The Munchy Box. Donner kebab meat, chips, cheese, naan, onion rings, chicken wings, etc...

Kinja'd!!!

Deep Fried Pizza.

Kinja'd!!!

Butter Bombs. Balls of butter coated in Irn Bru flavoured batter and then deep fried, served with Irn Bru ice cream and coulis.

Kinja'd!!!

Deep Fried Pickled Eggs.

Kinja'd!!!

My lazy dinner last night. Donner kebab meat pizza with extra cheese (with a sausage stuffed crust), chips, order of donner meat, garlic mayo and chilli sauce.

They are Scots because Perth, Edinburgh, Dundee, etc... are not Glasgow.

If it was specific to Glasgow then yes, but it isn’t. There are also a few chippies south of the border that do deep fried Mars bars and Creme Eggs but not deep fired pizzas (at least the ones in my city don’t).

Scotland has a history of frying stuff from frying blocks of porridge many years ago. By making a large batch of porridge and letting it go cold, then cutting off a slice when wanted and frying it.

Food around the world varies greatly but so can each city, town or village. I can walk a few hundred metres from a greasy Turkish Cypriot kebab shop to an out of this world true Italian restaurant in my little city.

You’d be surprised. British food is really not that bad unless you contrast it with some other countries in the EU. Scottish food is really good, which makes the contrast stronger. But then they have Glasgow, where they deep fry everything and everyone dies of heart disease in their 50s-60s.

They do.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/sc…

This average is drawn down mainly by Glasgow, where many of the wackiest foods people hear about from Scotland come from. In spite of socialized medicine, life expectancy is lower than those seen in former soviet satellites in eastern Europe.

A quick google search shows a chippie on nearly every road in Glasgow, while the other major cities have far fewer of them (they invented the Deep Fried Mars Bar, after all). The food is simply worse and more available there.

Perhaps they should bring their foodstuffs to the Texas State Fair, where you can get Chicken Fried Lobster (with champagne gravy, of course), fried alligator, fried carrot cake, fried beer-battered buffalo, fried sweet tea, fired pumpkin spice oreos, a hot dog wrapped in french fries and then deep-fried, fried cheesecake — well, you get the idea . You can wash it all down with a Bacon Margarita.

In may places chippies have fallen by the wayside (along with many pubs) as tastes have changed, etc... On the street at the end of mine there are three chippies (one is also a kebab shop), two Indian takeaways (one a restaurant) and two Chinese takeaways (opposite each other). Three streets away. People want more variety but there will always be a taste for the old stuff. A common one for nights out on the drink is, I guess a British version of Poutine, chips cheese and gravy.
