Kinja'd!!!

Just another day in the life as my family’s designated unpaid help desk technician. There were many more texts and a phone call after this, of course.

I feel this, and it’s why i honestly don’t openly talk about tech stuff anymore..

You should have my dad. Every time he comes back from a trip he calls me to ask how to get his pictures into iPhoto. Every. Time.

The second people find out I’m “good” with technology, I cry inside.

A few years ago in college, a friend had a friend of hers talk to me and said “Hey, _ told me you’re good at fixing computers. Can you install this inside my laptop?”

It was one of these.

I’ve been able to pus this responsibility off to my brother. I probably know more than he does, but I just act clueless when something goes wrong.

Ugh. This!

Whenever we go to my inlaws there’s always a stack of tablets, phones and laptops that need “fixing”.

I just tell them I work on Linux machines and don’t know Windows, either they believed me or got the hint I wasn’t their unpaid 24x7x365 help desk.

Maybe it was also the http://lmgtfy.com responses...

Tell everyone in your family to download Teamviewer. I did that and it has saved my sanity.

Hah! I also do this for a few things I know a lot about. If I see that this person might end up asking me for a bunch of favors I play oblivious.

That’s actually a great idea, but I’ll wait until the next time someone bugs me about some tech issue. Because if I do something related to “hey this will help me troubleshoot your computer the next time you have a problem,” it only encourages them to bug me even more.

I helped my girlfriends parents with this once, they in fact went out and bought a whole new printer to try to solve the problem but could only get it to work while connected to USB

Guess what the problem was?

.....

.....

.....

They didn’t connect the printer to their wifi, once I did that the computer found it instantly, windows downloaded the driver to make it work automatically, and it worked fine.

They actually gave me the “broken printer” in the end for “fixing” the new one, Its a nice printer so it kind of worked out.
