This guy wants $14,000 - firm - for this rusted out 912 that doesn’t run and has been sitting for decades. My brain tells me one could easily pump 5K into this and not have a car worth $19,000. On the other hand, air cooled Porsches are appreciating, at least currently, so it may be a good investment in the long run.
But on the otherhand, it’s a 912, and there ARE decent, running, driveable vintage 911s out there for 30K, or sometimes lower if you look hard enough - so how much could a decent driveable 912 really be worth?

I don’t have the knowledge to know whether this Porsche bubble will ever burst, but all ordinary air-cooled 911/2's are pretty CP right now in my book.

I was about to bust out the checkbook until I realized how much damn work it needs. CP all the way.

Nothing another 20 grand won't fix. The bodywork alone could consume that if done to a high standard. I think it's crackpipe, but I remember when running, driver quality longnose 912s were under 10k. They'll probably get their price.

$2,500 would be generous.

I’d say $4k CP. Yes air cooled Porsche prices are skyrocketing, but the 912 still isn’t worth a ton. And that’s a heck of a project.

i.r.[baboon] confused: if the engine was rebuilt in the ‘90's, how does it no longer have its carbs? Also, wouldn’t kill the numbers matching authenticity?

crap another one. A decent paint job will be 10k. That car would need a full strip to find all the rust.

It certainly seems that way. Same with VW microbuses - though I expect that bubble to burst pretty soon, younger people just aren’t that into them - and if they were they can’t afford them now. Porsches on the hand, will always have some sort of audience.

Maybe they’re setting their price off one another. See this on ebay a lot. One dope lists something for a ridiculous price, and then a bunch of dopes list the same and point to dope #1.

Yeah, VW microbuses seems like a fad. They are crap cars, let’s be honest. Porsches will always be cool and have something to say intrinsically as cars, not just because of some cultural reference point.

i think everyone looks up the hagerty “whats my car worth?” and thinks they have a 1 or 2. odds are 3, 4 or not listed.

Or they look up the blue book value online, and conveniently overlook the fact that figure is basically only for mint condition vehicles.

The ad says no Bondo so I’m thinking, add a little Bondo and a few rattle cans and air for the tires and presto! a $19,000 car which needs just a little TLC,
