Was that a catalog option? Did car companies really let you order engines off the menu as late as ‘95?

Maybe it was ordered by someone at the dealership or by some Jeep employee. Lots of oddball cars have been created that way.

You saw a few of these around at the time. The REAL rarity is the base-model 4.0-litre Grand Cherokee with a 5-speed manual transmission, which I’m almost positive was only available in 1993.
