Wet wet wet autocross in Bremerton, WA this weekend. Don’t let the rainbow fool you, the rain was only just beginning. My feet were soaking wet and numb with cold by the time I was done working the course. My reward was getting disqualified after my very first run because I’m an idiot and decided turning off the traction control even in the soaking wet would be a “good way to learn.” 4 wheels off the asphault is an instant disqualification for the rest of the day regardless of the cause. It’s a reasonable rule, but it still sucks to freeze my ass off just to get one run in.
I learned that I suck and I need way more practice before trying to get any kind of decent time in the pouring rain. I got on the gas a little too quick right before the finish and my reactions weren’t fast enough to catch the slide. In my defense, even a couple of the Subarus spun out.

That’s a shame. Where do you learn handing at the limits if not at autocross? Is there not much runoff?
Anyway, sorry about the flub, and better luck next time!

It’s a WWII era airport, so there’s lots of runoff in two directions and almost none in the other two. The course designers do their best to keep it safe, but that’s the reality of the location. Where I ran off was only a slight turn, but it gave me too much confidence to get on the gas too soon.
