...that all Civics under $2.5K are:

(pick 2)

Broken

200k+ miles

Base model (stick, cloth seats, steelies, etc.)

Riced

Edit: I get the idea. It just seems like you can get a better car for the money. Example: my brother’s loaded 1998 Nissan Altima was only $2k and had less than 90,000 mi on it.

I’VE FIGURED IT OUT! Its all about location. Here in central Illinois, Trucks and small reliable cars are $$$ while “better” cars are cheaper. So just ignore this post.

Because they’re under $2,500.

Because that’s what causes them to be worth less than two and a half thousand dollars?

Kinda thought that was obvious.

200k+ miles

Base model (stick, cloth seats, steelies, etc.)

I don’t see anything wrong with this

because you’re looking into a Civic...

anything over 2.5k is either: New, CPO, ‘rare’, or loaded with ‘goodies’

What’s wrong with a stick, cloth, and steelies? ;)

Yes but you can get Caddys with 130k miles for the same price.

Can you even get leather on an early 90s civic? Never seen that on any 90s civic honestly

Leather wasn’t available on any US-market Civic until a couple years ago.

Hondas tend to not depreciate as quickly as the others.

Nor do I! My DD ‘09 Hyundai Accent is stick with cloth seats and steelie WINTER rims....my summer rims are ‘98 Ford Escort alloys though, fancy, haha! Also, mine has 98,000kms instead of over 200k miles though...

Get the base model. I had a base ‘98 EK sedan and it was fucking fantastic. Sure, power windows would have been nice, but with 106hp on tap and four-wheel independant double-wishbone suspension (a technology the EK was the last generation to have), it’s the very definition of “drive a slow car fast”. Also a great highway cruiser that gets fantastic fuel economy, even if it does seem a bit strung-out at 80mph.

My summer DD Volvo 142 has steelies, cloth seats and is a manual (base model) and I wouldn’t have it any other way. It also has around 400 000 km, but it has been well maintained so it doesn’t matter.

Not to my knowledge. 2nd gen JDM CRX had a limited luxury trim level with them though.

Neither do I. USDM Civics were not available with factory leather until the late 2000's. The steelies are the best stock wheel available on the EG civics anyway. Swap in a stock K24 and you will have the perfect commuter car in my mind.

Not really. It’s that no one in my family knows how and I don’t want to go out and hire someone.

A 2.5k Caddy is just itching for 5k or more of parts to make it halfway decent. A 2.5k Civic needs an oil change and brake pads.

I like Hondas quite a bit, but won’t buy one for a few simple reasons.

For one, there is a 100% guarantee of it being broken into. Auto crime is huge here in BC, and any 10 year old can break into a honda basically with their bare hands without breaking a piece of glass.

Related to number one, there is roughly a 99% chance the car will be stolen outright with or without vigilant security measures in place.

Finally, thanks to the fnf related ricer movement of the early 2k’s, and their ease of stealability, hondas are a favorite target for police. Even stock, you’re looking at more police contact than you’d see in a comparable car. Rims plus I/H/E and you’ll be seeing blue and red weekly, if not more.... and if you’re a youth or happen to wear sideways monster hats by chance; they’re so gonna find your weed, man.

I taught myself, taking a 350Z for a test drive at noon in a hilly city.*

*granted, I’d been driving farm machinery since I was a kid, and everything’s manual... but there’s a fair difference between a 16 speed tractor that revs to 2800 that you can do a 11th gear start in, versus a 350Z, but it’s really not that hard!

Do any of your friends have a beater-grade manual Civic or Corolla?
