Found a 2005 with 100k miles for 13k. Really loved these cars back in high school, now worked enough that I can buy one. I had posts on the forums memorized back in the day. Thoughts about picking up one now?

Get one with service history. I wouldn’t want to work on one of these without knowing the mechanical service history. Get a PPI done at a BMW dealer so they can get a key read on it and show you all the warranty work performed (if any) and other dealer work.

Is it SMG? I would avoid that if possible. Awful transmission and potential money pit.

More generally, just keep in mind that if a car is vastly cheaper than other examples, there’s got to be a reason.

I’d be much more supportive if I knew how manual it was

I think Betteridge’s law of headlines applies.

Have a mechanic check it out first.

If it’s clean and well documented then pull the trigger. That’s a pretty decent price if it is well sorted. At some point they are really going to jump in value. Just make sure you got plenty of cash on the side to maintain it.

Get a PPI and go for it man. Don't completely discount it if it is an SMG, they are still fun to drive and still amazing machines.

Just in time for the valve adjustment that nobody does. It’s not an SMG, is it?
