Perhaps you could scale it down a bit so it’s not so IN YOUR FACE! Even the sidebar could be scaled back a bit. The suggested stories seem to be so much more important than the body content.

I still can’t see it, but I’m glad it’s being used for this purpose.

Yea, I took your suggestion and used my powers for good.

Try it on mobile. The three featured posts take up the whole screen (at least on a 5S) before you even get to the user posts.

I agree. It’s too prominent. The Handbook and Authorship articles would be better suited in smaller format at the bottom of the page.

I see neither the top bar nor the side bar on mobile Chrome.

Android Mobile is impossible, but that’s not really new.

I’ve never seen the sidebar on mobile, but the new top bar shows up for me. I’m not a fan, at least on mobile. But considering what we pay to use this space, I can live with it.

I’m using Chrome on a i6 and don’t see either bar.

Just gave it a go on Safari. Same result. I can’t see the side or top bars on my i6. I’m not connected to the wifi, so that might have something to do with it.

Interdasting. Are you running ad block on your phone?

I'm using Chrome on a Note 2 and I get the top bar like you describe.

Good question. So, I thought I’d follow up with a test on a couple of different phones. I have my old work phone (i4) and a test phone (i5) which I recently wiped but hasn’t been connected to the work IT phone gods.

On the i4 with Safari, the top bar shows up, but the side bar does not. Same is true for Chrome.

On the i5 with Safari, the top bar shows up, but the side bar does not. This phone doesn’t have Chrome installed.

I’m thinking the IT department has some hidden mojo that is blocking the bars, even when I’m not connected to the work network. It’s interesting that they block the bars, but other types of ads still appear. It’s also interesting that that they don’t block the ads when accessing through our guest network (both of the test phones are connected to that). Ads also aren’t blocked on my laptop which is accessing through our primary secure network.

Go figure.

Interesting. I think the top bar is still a work in progress. As you’ve probably seen, you can take a desktop browser window and squeeze it skinny and get the mobile site. The left sidebar always disappears to make room for content. I haven’t tried it with the new layout.
