How small these things were inside.
A customer is doing a restoration on his 94 Z28 and I just pulled it into the shop. It’s small. Like I had to put the seat the whole way back and lean it back a bit to fit my 6'3" ass inside it.

Yeah, the 4th gens used space as poorly as any car ever built. Good size car, tiny little interior.

Optispark isn’t bad as people make it out to be but hey, that’s the internet for you.

Well they ARE (front) mid-engined.

First thing I did was remove the rear seats, like hell I was ever putting a passenger back there!

Its awesome when you don't have to work on it. The opti was the main reason I sold my 97 Z28

Curious, why did you have to work on yours? I had a 94 which I think was a different design than the 95+ Optis

Well, this one does have the non-vented opti. But yea, not nearly as terrible. It had issues that were made even worse by cheap and shitty aftermarket replacements.

That’s why I took the back seats out of mine. 40 lbs of useless foam.

Fourvettes are heinously cramped as well.

I had to do a tune up, spent more time arguing water pumps at Napa then working on the car, but I shouldn't have to disconnect exhaust and drop the starter to change plugs. The way the wires are routed to the opti is horrible

Even the MSD stuff was junk which is surprising

Delco or no-go is the way it was for a while. At least MSD had the warranty.
I lost count of the number of people who tried in vain to do a cap/rotor swap to repair a fouled out opti.
Edit: I don’t know what to make of MSD lately. For a long time they were the company to get your stuff from. But there’s an issue with distributors rusting under the cap and other stuff that makes me wonder.

Haven't ran anything MSD lately, my 33 Ford has a old 6AL box but I'm still running Delco points in the distributor it's work great. Maybe they have sold to another owner and has let quality slip. The only other non GM ignition I'm running is an old Mallory unit in the 56 custom.

Oh yea, but that’s not a problem with the opti! I won’t disagree that any job in the engine bay on these cars takes a day/weekend longer than it should though.
Headers make the job easier...but not that much easier.

I’ll never forget how small they are inside. As a kid we had a ‘91 RS and a ‘96 V-6 t-top as the only two family vehicles. I spent way too many miles as a pre-teen wedged in the back seat of a Camaro.

I have 200k on my opti. Still going, and not driven tenderly either.

Long tube headers man. Plug changes in 30 minutes.

Heres the best fix. But at that point Id just LS swap the whole thing.

There was also a coil pack conversion to run LS style coil packs

Having driven a ‘99, yeah 6'4" me hardly fits. On top of the hilariously cramped interior the way the hood is shaped it’s so damn hard to find the end of it.

This guy here, not sure if they still make it, but it was like $500 just for the converter. If I find one I may pick one up.

My friend had one in college, a ‘99 I believe with a 3800 auto (Quite respectable for a V6 from that era).
I hit my head every single time I got in or out of that car. Every single time.
