I’d like a nice pair of 1965 License plates that will fit a 1965 Dodge Dart, which has a standard sized license plate spot (standardization came in 1957).

I currently have this plate on the car:

Kinja'd!!!

NC in 1965 was a nice yellow on black, but I don’t have a front one, and the one I have is getting rusty (matches the car).

I love the 1963 style CA plates but they’re expensive. Any other US format plates used in 1965 that would look cool?

Edit: This one is really cool

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

NC law allows me to display a year of manufacture plate as follows, doesn’t say anything where they have to be NC plates.

G.S. 20-63(d): Any motor vehicle of the age of 35 years or more from the date of manufacture may bear the license plates of the year of manufacture instead of the current registration plates, if the current registration plates are maintained within the vehicle and produced upon the request of any person.

In 1965 MA plates would’ve been white on brick red. In the 60's, however, they only issued dated plates on even numbered years so there are no 1965 plates, only ‘64 & ‘66

I can’t see a plate getting better than this.

I have a pair of black California plates. The DMV said they should have been removed before the lien sale and I live in Virginia now.

I’ve torn through my A body and from what little I’ve done to my grandfather’s 1966 Belvedere II I can say they’re not too different outside of size.

Got a question?

Ebay to the rescue. I have a set of these Bullitt replica plates. They actually look quite realistic.

For you and that purpose, $50 shipped fair?

I might do that. NC doesn’t have a law against re-productions. I’d need a way to get a 65 sticker through. Original ones aren’t cheap. Could probably make my own.

That listing says they do reproduction plates. Maybe try contacting them and see if they can make one for you?

1965-1972ish was all the same blue plate with yellow letters in oregon. Took me a long time to find a nice pair for my 68 Camaro

Now that I look into it they haven’t since the 50s.

It’d be cool if I could get my current NC plate number on an old CA plate. It would just help with things, although it’s not required.

I’m a plate collector so I’m on eBay all the time. They turn up for good prices all the time.

Was able to get my grandpa a NOS, still in the envelope set of Virginia 1964 plates for $40 when refurbished ones are going for $150. Got an 80s pair of CA plates for free.

It’s weird seeing a, “JESUS,” vanity NC plate on a car (specifically a faded maroon 80s Plymouth Voyager), and it’d be weird to see required NC front plates.

Wait, I’m confused. My state does not allow you to use out dated plates. Meaning when they update the plate, everybody is required to transition to the new plate. You can’t use an older plate once you have been phased in. Is this not how it is in your state?

What state are you in? North Carolina lets me display an old plate if my car is over 35 as long as I keep current plates inside the car. It’s a pretty lax state. Most if they allow this have you run it by the them so they know. My grandpa in VA has them on his Rambler and I had to make sure the number wasn’t already in use.

My current plate number that I display on the Dodge is actually registered to a 1997 Ford F-250

You scored on the NOS plates, last set I saw from Oregon at a swap meet the guy was asking $275, I paid $100 for the pair on my Camaro, they are nice unrestored.

I have a 62 fury that I’m trying to drop an LA motor in, and from my understanding that year has a unique k member with different mounts

Try Schumacher racing. I know they have adapters to put v8s on a body slant 6 k frames. Might have what you need.

I think it’s cheaper than finding an original K member.
