Thats not too bad. Drift stitch or plastic weld it from the back and your good to go till you save up for a new bumper. The drivers side looks like it got the brunt of it but I think you can piece it together. Grab a soldering iron, some polystyrene plastic, plastic glue, and start reassembling from the back. In a few hours it will be back together and reasonable. I did this to a mini van after my dad nailed a deer carcass and shattered the hell out of it.

And that’s problem with low hanging front aero. I worry this will happen with my wife’s Fit all the time. The front bumper hangs so low, and so far forward I couldn’t drive it onto ramps to change the oil, without first driving it onto a set of 1x6s used to kind of extend the ramp. On the flip side i never worry about this with my Galant because the front bumper is 6 inches off the ground at least.

Also my condolences. Cuz that sucks bro.

Drift stitches time? You’re still in college, it’s acceptable.

I feel your pain. I’m still rocking a crack at the bottom of my BRZ’s bumper in almost the same place. I’ve had a heck of a time keeping it together, and found that painter’s tape, of all things, seems to work best. It doesn’t hurt that the blue tape matches my World Rally Blue car rather well. I’m going to do a little drift stitching underneath, then cover it all with tape before state inspection next month. I got by OK last year, which is good because it got cracked right before it was due.

Drift stitches are always acceptable when used for actual repair as opposed to decoration (rabbit at 80+MPH)

I feel your pain friend, my smart still has a bullet hole up front...and this ugly gouge in the back. I still hate my ex friend for that...I mean who the hell puts a giant log in their back yard, then decides to rebar it into the ground?

no, at a certain point in your professional career, it is expected that you replace broken parts on your car. Before that, it’s cool.

Ooph, that stinks. The plus side is the front bumper cover is actually REALLY easy to take off. I’ve taken it off twice (once for the FRPP CAI snorkel, and the other to take out the broken AGS), and I’ve gotten it down to like 10 minutes. It takes longer to jack the car up then to take off the bumper.

+1 on stitching it together with some zip ties!

My friend was with me in his Subaru. Apparently into a puddle of chunks of ice does this.

That ice stuff is never good (just ask Silvestro). You’re only losing a few points of downforce, I wouldn’t fret too much.

Oh damn son. That is thoroughly fucked up.

But yeah, get an RS bumper. You don’t need to do anything else to make it look like an actual RS, because that would be poser, but the bumper does look significantly cooler.

And was that gap between the hood and bumper always there?

Kinja'd!!! K-Roll-PorscheTamer > Bytemite
02/26/2016 at 13:49

Kinja'd!!!0

Very much so. The hood gap is like that on all 2013-14 cars.

Kinja'd!!!1

1) Remove bumper, clear out all the ice and crap. Let it dry and clean it up well.

2) Figure out what it will take to re-mount fogs, epoxy in some little metal tabs or whatever if needed.

3) Drill out the end of each crack to remove the stress concentration (otherwise they will tend to spread).

4) Put some gaffer’s tape or similar on the back to hold it roughly together.

5) Put it back on the car so everything lines up right.

6) Drift stitches (there has to be a million tutorials for this on the internet).

Should hold up as well as it would if it were new until you are able and willing to replace it. An optional step 6.5 would be to get some touch-up paint around the right color and brush it on where it’s chipped; it won’t be pretty up close but it will make the damage less noticable from a few feet away and/or when moving.
