On an IRC channel - note that the only alcohol I’ve ever tried was basically jell-O shot mixed with vodka.

Would I want to try bourbon or whatever that backwater alcohol is called later down the road? Dunno.

Bourbon is an acquired taste. I like it but I’ve also tried several brands over the years and I know what I like. It’s not exactly refreshing but I guess the complexity of flavor is what people enjoy about it. If you’re not really a seasoned drinker, I wouldn’t really recommend it.

If you like sodas, try a rum and coke. Depending on the rum, it can be pretty easy to drink and it’s sweet.

There’s nothing wrong with sweet drinks. It’s your choice. But if value is important to you — how much alcohol you’re actually getting for the price — sweet drinks are pretty much the worst.

Just don’t let anybody bully you into drinking something you (a) don’t like or (b) can’t drink responsibly.
