...and PRIX means PRICKS. I always really liked this body style. A decent condition GTP 40th anniversary is a car I wouldn’t mind having. Made a decent noise and go like a stabbed rat with the 3800 Series 2 Supercharged. This one, however, is a base model 3100SFI. Laaaaaame.
Dat plastic interior tho.
Photos by me.

In my area, a burgundy Gran Prix is only driven by single moms on bald tires on snowy afternoons.

As a former owner of a ‘01 Special Edition GTP, The only thing really holding this car back is the glass transmission. Sure you could spend several grand on a built unit, or if you’re a wiring guru make a 4t80 fit in its place, but for a cheap, long distance cruising, comfortable, roomy car, this is hard to beat. I routinely got 30 mpg in mine as well, and that was with a cat back, PCM tune, and me not being so nice to the accelerator pedal.

The 4t80 is a decently easy swap. I’ve done it. You have to cut off some studs, thread some existing holes and put studs/bolts in them, re-wire it, then get a guy with HPTuners and very few fucks left to give to make you a frankenstein’d PCM tune for it. A good friend of mine currently has a 4T80e with a custom LSD in his twincharged Park Avenue Ultra

I think you have to massage the transmission tunnel for clearance as well.

Transmission tunnel for clearance? It’s a FWD car.

Wrong terminology, but I’m not sure what it’s called then. I remember back when I was a member of the old Mymonte.com forums, one member transplanted an entire Cadillac STS drivetrain into his ‘95 LS, Northstar and all. He said that to make it fit, he had to beat in the base of the firewall to clear the transmission.

Probably to clear the cylinder head for the rear bank of cylinders. The northstar drivetrain is HUGE.

He had more build pics on the Mymonte forum. It’s long dead though. I swear he said he had to beat the bottom of the firewall for transmission clearance.
