actually as I shut the lift gate, the strut blew out. Maybe it should have passed on its third bowl of chili. Any idea on how to figure out the required weight capacity, its 19.5" (thats what she said)

I’m not sure how to interpret those markings, but if you look up the strut (RockAuto for example), sometimes they list the specs.

This is one of those things that, were it to break on my car, I would simply never fix it. Kudos to you for you initiative.
Yes, I am terrifically lazy. The outside driver’s door handle broke on my car and I still haven’t fixed it. I need to get in the passenger’s side and open it up from the inside every time I get in...

Also, many many places make gas springs.
If you get the specs, you could likely find them any number of places. McMaster has em, etc. McMaster carries Suspa gas springs, which I don’t believe you can buy direct.

Luckily, struts are the easiest thing to find for older cars. god knows why.

I make a mean brisket chili (I am a god) that will keep you farting for days. Anyone in the car with you will want to get out of there like you could spread herpes through the air.

i dont think there is anything special these types of struts. They are basically length and boost power and used everywhere. Tool boxes, hoods, boats, I think my cousin even had these types on his drop down attic stairs.

yea its taken a while for me to get those off, and it will probably take me a while to order them, but that rear hatch is crazy heavy and a pain to get anything in and out of.

I knew I’d be doing this. The strut actually blew while on the lot the first time I went to look at it. They guy said he was going to replace it and never got around to it. the only thing thats actually bothered me so far is the tow bolts / control arm issue I have to deal with. I’m only $4k into this thing. After a few more parts, i’m thinking another $500, it will be in great shape. I see a lot of these going for $6-10k.

It's just weird to see common sense part interchangeability. Seems like every company needs its own stupid version of things.
