The images are, at first glance, overtly racist caricatures. If they’re being posted for some other reason, it’s necessary to explain what that reason is.

The fact that you don’t know enough about the history of racism to recognise what they look like doesn’t mean they don’t look like that.

I didn’t assume anything of the kind - the exact opposite, in fact - and no, that’s not ‘pulling a race card’. But using that phrase is still the kind of thing I expect from a Klancase, not an Opponaut, because ‘pulling the race card’ isn’t an actual thing, it’s just a phrase used by racists to dismiss complaints about them being racist.

Perhaps cool your jets and give someone the benefit of the doubt before lashing out at them in a situation where you may not have a complete grasp of.

What we see in the world around us everyday is frequently a reflection of others, not us. But it can just as often be a reflection of us; of what we want to see. Wisdom is being able to divine the difference between the two, understand what our own biases and contributions may be, and how they may be impacting our perception. Given the number of times that you’ve exploded over nothing, it seems to me that’s something you might want to work on a little bit.

I understand your perception of there potentially being racist overtones in the photos above. I thought much the same at first, only to go back and research where those photos came from. It didn’t take long to find that they came from Hamilton himself. What I cannot understand is your reaction. For someone who so richly (if implicitly) demands that others give you the benefit of the doubt and shift their perspectives to understand you, you are frequently astoundingly unwilling to do the same in return.

What you saw did in fact offend you; if it didn’t, you wouldn’t have said a damned thing. You would simply have moved along. And yet, you didn’t. You jumped right in. But rather than handle it like an adult and approach the situation with a little bit of caution and temperance, you chose to go straight on the attack. Rather than politely ask about the origin of the photos, you made a snarky attack, only to look like an ass for it - and deservedly so.

Next time, try giving someone the benefit of the doubt before jumping down their throats. Things might go a lot easier for you.
