And that nobody realizes how useful wagons are in this country.....

Because Americans want taller cars and they need taller cars to see over shorter cars, that’s the big selling point right now. Why would you buy a short car? Short cars can’t see over things! Sale lost.

It’s a shorter Sportage. Companies want healthy profit margins, and crossovers do that.

because they already have a small SUV. It’s the Sportage.

Seriously, I’m dissapointed with the Optima wagon. It’s much too high and it looks like a crossover.

Especially because the concept was pure sex:

Meanwhile, there are people complaining about how “boring” it is.

WELL GUESS WHAT

YOU WON’T EVEN HAVE THE CHANCE TO BUY ONE

That’s awesome! Also, too bad we don’t get the Rondo anymore, either (but Canada does). Is the Optima wagon available up there?

You answered that question with your initial statement.

“US”

People are fucking stupid. They don’t know what they want or what they need. You have to tell them what they want and need.

There is a reason why marketing cost per product sold is higher in America, than in most countries around the world.

Because carmakers still think only boomers buy cars and they don’t like wagons.

I mean, look how long it took us to start getting hatchbacks.

Because no one at Kia has realized that they can just put a lift kit on the Optima wagon, slap on some unpainted plastic fender flares and roof rails, and rename it the Kia AllCross or something and make a mint off of it.

Because the only way you can successfully sell a wagon in the US anymore is if you’re either Subaru, Volkswagen, or Volvo. If you’re not one of them, your wagon is doomed to fail because of the CUV.

But...the hatchback is starting to pick up some serious steam (I mean, we’ve got more hatchbacks on the market in the US now then we did a decade ago.), so maybe the wagon could make a comeback....maybe.

No wagon here, unfortunately. I drove the Rondo while I was in Nova Scotia for a week and it’s a pretty solid no nonsense vehicle; it’s just really slow (especially when you load it up with 5 people). To bad they don’t offer a V6 anymore or drop the 2.0T in it.

oh man a 2.0T Rondo would be fucking awesome!!!! I’d love to swap one into a first-gen Rondo.

And at least you guys still get the Mazda 5 manual transmission with a sunroof. They stopped offering manual 5's down here.

Not to mention the non-electric B-class and Micra. The ILX isn’t as awesome as the CSX Type-S you guys used to get, 8000 rpm and heated seats!

It actually has to do with the CAFE standards. It’s more advantageous for a car manufacturer to make a small SUV than a slightly more efficient wagon.

-lifts it up slightly-

-adds unnecessary body cladding-

BAM, Outback/Allroad competitor that will still won’t do AMAZING in the US might at least be borderline sell-able.
