I was stationed at the old Navy base in Orlando for a year and when they watered the lawns the sulfur stench would just hang in the air. We kept a bottle of water in our mini fridge since it was only drinkable if it was REALLY cold.

What I discovered when visiting for DisneyWorld was to use the hotel ice machines and fill up several water bladders (camelback) and then let it melt. The filtering and distilation effect of ice making got rid of the stank/taste and we have about 5 liters of drinkable water for the day.
