You’ll never guess how he did it. Reason #1 will blow your mind.
!!! UNKNOWN HEADER TYPE (MULTI-LINE BREAK?) !!!
That’s it. Some habits are hard to break. He still shows up to work an hour early, still has the same job, and still eats the same amount he did when he was getting all those steps in.
I don’t think there is anything really shocking in this update, and that’s great.
James Robertson is having a hard time adjusting to his new location and misses seeing some of his own friends, but overall things are good.

I read that article a couple days ago. Its good to see he’s adjusting well and listened to all the financial help he received.
And what’s awesome is that this guy still has his same work ethic and perfect attendance.
I’m sure many of us can’t imagine walking and busing 21 miles to work, but there are many people out there faced with this type of situation unfortunately. I’m glad that his plight at least increased some of the bus-routes an made some others 24 hours.

I can’t imagine not having a car in metro detroit. I missed the update on this in the paper. Glad he’s adjusted well.

“many of us can’t imagine walking and busing 21 miles to work”
For what it’s worth, I used to walk 5 miles each way to work because it was quicker/as-quick as rush hour commuting by public transport - so double that doesn’t seem more ridiculous to me than any other 2 hour each way commute. But it was never about the commute in this story: even if he couldn’t afford a car, he could have got a bicycle. Everyone keeps glossing over the bit where this chap is not mentally capable of being a fully functioning adult, and how everyone in his community was already taking care of him before the internet started congratulating itself on donating trivial amounts of cash. (Yes, it’s a lot to him, but it’s no more than dropping a few pennies into a panhandler’s tin from our perspective, and it does nothing to fix the bigger problems.)
You want to fix something, fix the system that sends him out into the world on his own without anyone taking responsibility for his wellbeing.

Agreed.
While it sucks that he’s having a hard time adjusting to the new neighborhood/friends/weight, etc, It’s great that he’s financially stable, and is away from that weird arrangement he had in that old place he was living.

It would take me 8 hrs to walk 21 miles. When the hell did he sleep?
