16 minutes of sound clips and I don’t know....It sounds alright. JUST alright.

Damn thing sounds like a quiet weed-whacker to me. Aftermarket exhausts will probably help to a degree, but I am disappoint for sure.

Flat 6 master race for sure.

Sounds deeper than I imagined.

It’s redline isnt too high either. Sufficient I guess.

This is a weird comparison but it sounds like the Esprit. I was HOPING for S2000. Oh well.

No, I can hear it, that’s a damn good comparison I would have never thought of! But the Lotus does sound better than the 718 just so we’re clear.

A Flat-4 has the same firing order as any inline 4, and whatever difference in exhaust tone is the acoustics of the pipework. And turbochargers act as acoustic dampers anyway.

A Flat-6 has the same narrower firing order as an inline-6, and also that (just half the cylinder count) of a V12.

A flat-6 is a sweet songstress, and that blue 981 Boxster Spyder is purity and perfection.

If only inline-4s could sound like Flat-4s....

That depends on whether they have equal length headers or not.

Subaru EJ flat fours did not have equal length headers, and had a very distinct cadence, but later FA/FB engines with equal length headers sound much more like I-4s.

Yeah, that one has a fancy exhaust. I think stock it’s pretty close. Which is weird for cars separated by 41 years.

eh, they both aren’t great. I blame the turbos leaching out the high frequency noises that complete the “proper” h6 wail

That Boxster Spyder is beautiful. If I’m honest, sometimes I like it when the newest version of a great car is somehow worse the previous gen... Since I’m not going to buy any of these cars new, knowing that the current or older gen is the one I want means that it will depreciate sooner and will be attainable for me. See the E46/E9x M3 vs the F8x M3, and the NA 911s and Caymans/Boxsters vs the newest versions (and going back a little further to get a hydraulic rack wouldn’t be bad either).
