Watching Alien last night I learned 3 things
1. This movie only gets better the more you watch it
2. The Yutani Corporation (“The Company”) had by this time developed engines capable of warp 4.5. According to !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! the cruise speed of the 88b Bison was .42 lightyears/day and that translates to roughly 153x the speed of light, which in the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! is ~ warp 4.5. Nice going Yutani!
2a. The sad discovery that we aint never leaving the galaxy because even at 153x C it would still take over 13,000 YEARS to reach the Andromeda Galaxy (next closest). Even assuming warp 9.3 (the fastest I can recall the enterprise ever going...equiv. to 2010 x C) it would still take a millennium to reach Andromeda.
3. Prometheus was a letdown

Space is big. Really big. You just won’t believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it’s a long way down the road to the chemist, but that’s just peanuts to space.- Douglas Adams

I love Alien. Even disregarding the sci-fi elements, it stands on its own as a great horror/thriller movie. Prometheus, alas, does not:(

oh man! Look Parker, you know she’s a goner anyway, may as well light em both up. Counterpoint - way to be Parker for redeeming yourself as a human being.

I REALLY wanted to love Prometheus. I have re-watched it several times to make sure I’m not missing the point, not seeing the details. I’ve come to conclude one of 2 possible scenarios:
1. The point is intentionally unknowable at this point in the series (he’s doing more)
2. The point is obvious and lame.

That may be about the right mass energy required.

Well yeah, I guess there is that. That actually was kind of a powerful moment. When faced with the choice, he did what was right, even though he knew he’d die for it.

Sigourney Weaver
was HOT in that movie. Alien is on my top 5 best movies of all times.

I still like Ridley Scott though. He’s one of only a few directors who still has the balls to pick up serious sci-fi projects, instead of stupid superhero flicks or science fantasy space operas.

But by all means, let’s fight about meaningless bullshit here on Earth!

I don’t know if it was omitted in the review process, but I think off-Earth 4.0s were predicted by the Drake Equation.
