I don’t really have any good explanation why I did this. I hadn’t worn a watch in many years, until I got a Seiko two years ago. And I’ve had this weird itch that only a “real” watch, one made with lots of impressively tiny metal parts moving perfectly in time, would scratch.
So I finally did it. No, it’s not a vintage !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , or even one of those awesome old Seikos. Someday, maybe, but for now waaaay more dough than I’d part with. But this one, the price was right enough that I don’t feel like I’m taking away from my daughter’s future, and apart from the thickness, doesn’t scream “HEY EVERYONE I GOT A NEW WATCH.” And I replaced the silicone band it came with before I wore it.
The face is way more subtle than photos capture... hard to describe, but the surface changes are
really
minimal, and the tachymeter marks are only there if you’re looking for them. I just wish it weren’t so polished.
(The big drawback— 16mm case depth)
It’s not a “fancy” watch, really, and I don’t like that it has a window back over the movement, though the new strap now covers it:
(not mine)
It’s just something that I did for myself, that I can justify twenty ways to Tuesday, but in the end, just makes me more aware of the importance of the moment, and how hard I’ve worked.
I love that it’s something that will surely outlast me.

Thanks! I’m sure anyone who looked at this would say “it’s the same thing as the one you already have, dipshit” but to me the difference is one of those things that if you have to try to explain, they’ll never get.

I get it. Exact same reason I got myself 2 (not that expensive) vintage Soviet watches last year. There is just something awesome about the the engineering of mechanical/automatic watches.

Oh man I love Tissot watches. I am seriously considering as the next addition to my collection when the time comes. Congrats on the purchase.

For whatever reason, I’ve always liked them a lot. Understated, Swiss, unpretentious. Not swayed either way by the fact that they’re like the Acura to Swatch’s Honda (sort of... not analogous history, obviously).

It’s like James May, talking about the ‘taste the difference’ cheese.

Agreed. I like that it isn’t too shouty. Some can be expensive, but others can be had by us common folk so it allows more to get into owning a Swiss made watch as opposed to some of the other companies.

Well a new watch will scream “hey! new watch” by default. :P
If anyone has 2 similar looking watches (I haven’t seen what your other one looks like phenotyp) its just the way it is. I’ve seen 2 of those Omega Speedmaster Moon timepieces that look almost the same. To be fair some designs don’t need huge updates, just small ones.
