I have an aftermarket stripe kit on my Saab 9000 that’s a direct throwback to the stickers worn by the original 99 Turbo way back in 1978. Reading over Doug DeMuro’s old column about the evils of up-badging and the subsequent discussion about debadging, I figured that this kind of throwback to older badging is a completely different discussion altogether. Off the top of my head, I couldn’t think of too many other examples, but Porsche’s side stripes come to mind.

So, Oppo, whatcha got?

The red Honda badge and the McLaren logo were both derived from their F1 partnership, when their cars were running red/white Marlboro liveries.

Not sure if it counts, but it’s still cool.

I’m not sure if these are actually period:

Kinja'd!!!

But the 300ZX had them as an option in Japan (because everything is an option in Japan). I assume it’s a throwback to the past.
