Thats what I wanted to say to several customers today. Everyone is in full scale spastic gotta have parts yesterday mode. The last call was just like so many others today. A nationally branded tire shop customer needs a 2003 Saturn Vue 3.0 purge valve and only GM has them anywhere. Seven in the entire country and nobody makes it after market. Only other source would be a questionable used part. The shop customers car failed emissions testing and can’t get new plates until its fixed. Somehow I’m guessing from the level of frustration and tone of voice that it’s my problem that they waited until the end of the day, month, year and I should die in hell for my not having guessed they needed it and ordered it last week. If I had a crystal ball it would save me so much grief.

i hear you, we have similar issues here. added bonus we don’t have any type of inspection once the car is registered.

Bi-yearly here in Ohio for E-check, but you get new plates or sticker each year. Wish they would just go to every two years for the inspection and the sticker. It happens in the last days of each month that everyone who procrastinates is freaking out because they need to pass inspection. Never mind that they’ve had a check engine light intermittent for three months, its down to the last minute before they try to do anything about fixing the piece of crap.

Wait there’s a mandatory e-check for Ohio? I live here and I never heard about it.

In larger metro areas. Many of the e-check stations now have a self service kiosk with a scanner that you can check your own car at any hour day or night. Its so convenient if you can work on your own stuff, clear the codes , run enough drive cycles and then get the required inspection form printed on the spot.

This is when the unwritten English teacher portion of your job kicks in, and you get to explain the word “obsolete”.

Oh my god yes. You just don’t know how many times I’ve come right out and told people that they need to sell certain Saturns and Pontiacs that are getting hard to get parts for.

Well that’s what you get for legally changing your name to ‘Dave the car guy’. Just change it to ‘John the stop fucking bothering me with your dumb shit guy’ and no one will bother you anymore.
Just kidding. Everyone will still harass you regardless.

Best wishes, bruh. I feel ya on the “I’m your only customer, ever” deal
. Would have liked wearing this Dilbert shirt but when you’re an Only Customer you have no sense of humor, right? And neither does the boss when it comes to unhappy Only Customers...

Try finding a fusible link for a BMW E34 in Las Vegas. I think I found the very last one...

Look at a GM style 80 amp mega fuse, the spacing may be close enough for it to work in that spot.

As it turns out it was only corrosion on the FL that was causing the barrage of problems; everything was fine until I started detailing the engine compartment and jarred this part for the first time in 23+ years. Once it was cleaned and polished up a bit it worked fine, and the replacement I purchased has been sitting around for a few years, thankfully unneeded. I’ll keep that GM part in mind should I ever need another one and can’t find a BMW part.

Pictures have been sent. I put a cropped and just slightly enhanced copy on my account Flickr so you can see how it is when blown up a little.
