A RAV4, vintage 2008. The blower fan started working only on 1 and 4. Later on, it only would go to 4 if i torqued the switch at 4 as if i were turning it to 5 and the fan could come on until I hit a large bump or someone gets out of the car. I’d have to do it again. Classic blower resistor diagnosis via the internets yields a $27 part that didn’t change anything. I do notice the switch to 4 issue and begin to think about it. Having previously taken it out and cleaned it up, sanded the copper bits and contacts and reapplied dielectric grease, same issue.
Is this a switch issue or something further inside the dash the dealer will need to charge me lots of monies for?

Looks like you already changed the resistor. What about the motor itself? These types of issues seem to typically be either the resistor or the motor in my experience.

i’d have said resistor , but one and four work it can’t be, if the resistor failed it would be 4 only
