Why does the Corvette Manta Ray appear to have rear pop-up lights
(Don’t watch the video) Are they reverse lights? Why did someone decide to make a video of a model bought at a hobby store? (video used for image)(Kinja won’t let me post photos) The sideways sting ray above the rear bumper looks good.
EDIT: They were for upward facing brake lights. (REALLY?) Not for extra braking.

Hard braking caused flaps on the rear deck to rise, reflecting light
from upward facing stop-lamps (a feature first shown on the original
‘65 Maco Shark).

All other answer are bull$#@%. Those are airbrakes, son. That thing had a prototype fusion drive and could reach 320 MPH, and 4 wheels disc brakes just weren’t going to cut it. Also, it could fly.

Why aren’t pop-up brake lights a thing? They should be a thing.

I’d assume for the obvious scenario where they don’t pop up

And now there’s an article on the FP about it. At this point I guess when they are out of ideas they just come to Oppo for material.
