Basically, this.
So, storytime, folks -
Yesterday, after a haircut, I decided to meet up with the long-suffering girlfriend and go for a run southbound to Mornington, a small beachside town below Melbourne, Australia. Lovely place.
As we were walking down Main Street, I heard a distinct V8 rumble and turned, to see what - I swear to God - was an original Ford GT40, or a damn convincing replica of one.
It was painted in Gulf livery, with that very distinct straight-piped V8 noise. Taillight pattern was identical to the original, so it wasn’t a more recent GT. I would have gotten a picture, but I wasn’t close enough by the time it had moved off.
Anyone know if any GT40s made their way to Australia? Or was what I saw just a very well-produced replica?

I could very well be wrong. But I’d doubt the real ones are street legal.

I believe that they’re driven on the street in America, although they may not be legal in this country.

Sounds about right; looking into their work, it looks pretty similar.

Kinda pricey for a replica but looks good

Thinking better, it looks like it could be a replica from Cape Advance Vehicle, a South African brand that only works with GT40s replicas. They recently started working in Australia too

I thought you could make virtually anything one off road legal / imported in Australia? It would be really ironic if they weren’t road legal in Australia but were in the US considering they were right hand drive

If you don’t know for sure that it was real, it was a replica. It is always a replica.
