YOU DIDN’T DO THIS ALL SUMMER, WHY THE HELL ARE YOU DOING IT ON A SLIGHTLY WARM WINTER’S EVE!?!?!?
For those unfamiliar; cylinders 1,2,7, and 8 are the front four cylinders, which are exactly the cylinders one sees missfires on if the car is hot enough to boil 10% ethanol fuel in the rails. It is a problem my car has had in the past which I thought it had resolved on its own. It annoys me. The car will be fine in the morning, only showing 410 and 444 again after a few days, but we M275 owners do not take any missfire lightly, especially when I REPLACED ALL 24 GODDAMN SPARK PLUGS AND COIL INSULATORS NOT 5,000 MILES AGO!

ECU(s) or a sensor maybe?
crimped wiring?

Nah, not regular enough for an actual hardware failure. AMGtech said there was a TSB about it because it’s a known problem on the 275 V12. Apparently there is some kind of auxiliary wiring harness bridge to the fuel pumps that was designed to fix the problem by boosting fuel pressure for 30 seconds or something when the engine is hot.

It seems silly, but apparently fuel coolers are a thing.

Your car is also under that impression, apparently.

I like “pending fault” - it’s not broken yet, but it’s coming.
Thanks for reminding me to not be smitten by the song of the 215/220s.

All I can say is never test drive a functional CL or S600. You will find one in your driveway not long after with the memories of how it got there an utter blur.

Sounds like unmetered air is getting in on one bank. Either shot intake manifold bushings, cracked intake tubing after the maf, secondary air intake tubes, etc.
I’d spray some carb cleaner or starting fluid around on that side and see if you can make the rpm fluctuate at all. If so, you found the leak. (An unlit propane torch works well for this too, and is cheaper.)
Could be what you said about fuel boiling I guess, but like you said, it didn’t happen during the heat of summer so a mildly warm winters day shouldn’t allow for it. Colder weather will most certainly allow intake leaks to present themselves, however.
Ymmv of course, cause I’m no mechanic.... Just a BMW owner.

How many of them can pass an OBD test? :)
I can imagine the allure of the V12, and the AMG cars must be especially tempting. I might hold out for a W221 though, seems less risky in the long run. or a 140 if I want vintage. 215/220s take real love.

“Fault”
Why do manufacturers insist on playing the blame game?

I don’t think I’ve been through 24 spark plugs in my life, total.

Now if only my mechanic would do the research on that I’ve asked him to at least 3 times...
