Oil light came on today, says it is “low”. The last oil change was 2k miles ago, it was indeed low and I had to top it up. Is this normal?

Also, the VW symbol on the engine still has the protective plastic cover thing.

EDIT: It’s important to mention that I usually drive/accelerate like a complete moron.

It’s a VW. Not running is the normal so the fact that you’re car is operating means that your situation is abnormal. So no that is not normal.

Oil is low after 2k miles? Yeah something’s wrong.

Oh it’s a VW? Nevermind then.

Oil is low on a VW...

asks if normal.

Well, I guess that’s the same engine as mine.

Yes.

When our 2008 A4 had that issue with 30,000 or so miles on it we needed new piston rings. Besides that, the car was perfect and never let us down.

Normal on my late E90 M3. I’ve also got one of those EA888's, no trouble /low oil yet, approaching 16k miles.

Personally never had a water-cooled VAG product that didn’t use at least *some* oil from new

“Besides having to rebuild the engine at 30k miles, the car was great!”

-shit VAG owners say

It was completely free under warranty and the car currently has 90,000 miles on it without a single issue.

“My engine ate itself at 30k miles and VW was kind enough to replace it for me!”

-shit VAG owners say

Of course they replaced it under warranty, their factory engine wore through rings in 30k miles. That’s insane. Maybe they accidentally gave you one of their race engines and it was making 900 hp?

Ehhh, it wasn’t really that big of a deal.I know people who’ve had American cars with much worse problems. Car was in a shop for a week and we got a loaner.

“It wasn’t that big if a deal that my brand new factory built engine ate it’s piston rings in 30k miles.”

- shit VA....this was all meant as a joke, but this is actually stuff you’ve been saying.

Lots of manufacturers have had issues with oil consumption lately (I’m looking at you Subaru), but you’re the only person I’ve met that doesn’t think havig your engine rebuilt at 30k miles is a big deal.

Well, if it cost money it would be a big deal. But it took less than week and the dealer took really good care of us. And the only reason I’m not too pissed with it still was because of how reliable the car has been. But in the moment I was a bit pissed because it was a pretty much new fully loaded A4.
