Which is less: number of miles this thing makes it, or life expectancy of the driver?

Sounds like the 5.3. Intake looks right but can’t see enough of the top of the motor to confirm.

okay so it it the 5.3 I was going to be REALLY amazed for a second. 900 wheel hp isn’t too amazing with an LS, but it probably wont last long.

Life expectancy in Minutes or years?

6.0 truck motor. They’ve been consistently turning up the wick since March and their biggest problems have been running out of injector/pump.

Driver life expectancy. They’ve been turning up the wick on this thing since March, and their only real problems were running out of injector/fuel pump.

I was thinking years, but maybe minutes.

I’m thinking miles will be greater because once he gets of 60mph, he’ll be gaining more miles than minutes....but then a 1/4 mile should take about 12sec. .... and i expect both the car and driver to be dead before the end.

Before I watch the video are these guys the kind of guys who hold the camera and talk to the camera a ton just because they seem to like the sound of their voices?

Not really. Pretty much as soon as you start the video, the dyno pull starts.

That’s completely mental, I love it.
I wonder what I could do with a 4.2 Ford Essex V6...

A Comp Camps 44-704-9 and a good tune would probably net you all the grunt you’d really need in an E-series (no idea where the hell you’d find the right valve springs, though).

Well, the intake manifold looks stock. The rest of the intake doesn’t look very stock.

Yeah, with every LS build the intake manifold is just the intake, for some strange reason. No idea why, but I’ll roll with it.

I’d honestly just drop in a 4.6. You don’t need power in a van, you need down low torque. The 4.6 makes almost as much torque off idle as the 4.2 makes peak.

Wow! I love the way the guy says “Eight Ninety Five!” with the big grin and happy giggle. Revel in it sir, you have earned it!
On another note, it is amazing how far engine tech has progressed in my lifetime. Specifically, I remember helping a buddy soup up (yeah, that’s what we called it) a small block 350 in his ‘72 Monte Carlo... with a stock bottom end, sporting a 2 bolt main. Spent what few bucks we had on go-fast parts, no budget for parts to make it live. We never had to worry about changing the oil... perhaps more accurately, we never had to worry about only changing the oil... the engine never lasted that long. The thing pulled hard from about 4000 up to 7800 - it was a blast. But, those pulls were often accompanied by bent pushrods, broken pistons, snapped rocker arms and studs... why, we even witnessed the the alternator belt launching into orbit on a number of occasions (yes, we were “those guys” who didn’t bother with putting the hood back one the car). We would pull the engine, tear it apart, and marvel at the carnage inflicted on the stock bottom end - it always needed new main bearings in addition to whatever broke. So, allow me to give credit to the engineers who have drastically improved the quality and durability of (some) modern engines. 895 HP on a stock bottom end? They don’t build them like they used too... :-D

Every single site that I’ve referenced for V6 to V8 swaps has greatly discouraged it, citing Too Much Work. On the upside, my helper/our long time roommate was a Ford dealer tech for many years and knows these vans inside and out. Tomorrow we go to formally look at it, albeit while I’m working and he and my manager are going to talk about it.

You’re probably thinking straight six to Windsor V8. 4.2 to 4.6 is basically engine, trans, computer, and the engine/trans harness for a 4.6. Not stupid hard or anything like that.

I searched for 4.2 Essex swaps to 4.6 Modular, and one forum said that I would need to replace the entire wiring harness which doesn’t sound like fun at all.

Not the entire wiring harness, just the powertrain harness. Since you’re pulling the engines anyways, and there’s a huge passthrough in the firewall, it’s not that hard to get at. I personally wouldn’t screw with the engine at all and just drop in a junkyard 4.2 with some fresh valve cover, intake manifold, and oil pan gaskets and call it a day. The stuff you do to customize a cheap van isn’t really under the hood anyways.
