Surprised the Wi-Fi is working... think there’s a defect in them, if you plug anything USB it’ll just die.

Don’t plug more than 1 charger into it if you ever want to charge it again.

Back in 2008 or 2009 I was at the apple store with one of my high school friends, and he was getting an iphone, it was his birthday presents from his parents. Since it was taking some time, I got on one of the laptops. I pulled up the internet and went to facebook. Someone had left their facebook logged in, so I started deleting their friends. They had over 800 when I started. I removed half and their facebook friends started at the letter “M”.

The only thing I liked in the 10 minutes I tried one was how much track pad real estate there was. I could scroll for days.

I never “friend” anyone partly because then I don’t have to “de-friend” anyone and then explain why to them. I wonder if you nuked that person’s social life and they are just now recovering from the fall out.

My wife bought me a new laptop for Christmas (she doesn’t know I know, the order confirmation came to my email). I don’t know which one she bought, though. I hope it’s one of the bigger ones.....

So, climb into the wayback machine, Sherman, and take a trip to the early 80s, when we learned enough BASIC to reprogram the demo computer in the mall computer store to scroll an endless string of rude words. Hilariousness is cheap when you’re 12.

Fast forward to grad school, when my biophysicist buddy and I decided to download and install a copy of Pymol from Purdue’s servers onto a Power Mac with Cinema Display in the Apple Store and rotate 3D structures of different proteins in full color renderings. Same idea, better implementation. :)

Basically the moment he plugs in the USB capture card, Wi-Fi goes out on the new MacBook Pro. Some Apple fanboys are calling it BS, but this guy repairs MacBooks for a living.

I think the MacBooks are great, but since I got an office with a nice desktop, I don’t really lust after them anymore. For my mobile needs, I prefer an iPad. What I really want is an iPad Pro with Apple Pen.

One time I left the “Offended” page from encyclopedia dramatica open on a macbook in the apple store. If anyone knows that page, much hilarity ensues when unsuspecting victims start scrolling through there.

A person of good taste. Good.

The first thing I did when I was well enough to sit up in the wheelchair in the hospital was have my sister get me a stuffed Opus to ride on my lap. Now, he lives in my daughter’s room, but we still go on the occasional outing. ;)

Basically apple screwed up and if you input power from more than 1 port it fries the charging control board because they didn’t put any fail-safes in.

It was 6 years ago, and if you’re going to log in to facebook in the apple store, you should make sure you log off. Probably didn’t destroy their social life, and if you’re really “friends” then it shouldn’t have mattered.

Kinja'd!!! Chariotoflove > E90M3
12/20/2016 at 16:43

Kinja'd!!!0

Oh, I was just joking. Sorry, I should have added a “LOL” or something. Anyone who has 800 “friends” and was checking them on a public and insecure computer got what they deserved. And yeah, I doubt there was any real fallout.

Kinja'd!!! ttyymmnn > TheTurbochargedSquirrel

...input power....

So this doesn’t have anything to do with connecting USB peripherals?

Kinja'd!!!0

I deactivated my facebook on Jan 27 of this year, let’s gloss over the fact why I remember that date, I haven’t had any fallout over it. Sometimes my friends are like did you see this on facebook, and they’re like oh right you don’t have a facebook.

Well there is that problem as well but that one doesn’t kill the laptop.

I have a FB page that I activated to find someone from high school I wanted to get in touch with. Mission accomplished. I don’t check it, and I don’t answer any friend requests. I also block the reminders from my email. Call me old, but I communicate with my friends the old fashioned way.

Now my wife keeps up with her page as the default family page. She rarely posts or updates, but she gets lots of family news that way (and thus so do I through her so I don’t have to do the work). Leaves me more time for important things like Oppo.

Plug in high bandwidth devices and the WiFi turns off.

I like my 2013 air. Light but still get a full OS. I feel as if I’d be more receptive of the IPad Pro if it ran something other than modified IOS.

I agree that it needs more flexibility. It’s good that the Pro has dual window capability. The big thing for me is that I hate having to app switch back and forth like I do now on my iPad Air.

I was in an Apple store today around 1pm and it was super busy - I almost chickened out. And when I asked the woman who was helping me if it’s crazy like that because of Christmas: “Nope, it’s usually much worse in here!”

I didn’t get a Macbook, just some accessories. It’s crazy how you can pay on the second floor and walk out with no receipt and no bag and nobody seems to care. Probably Siri is watching for shoplifters and sends some sort of automated alert...

I wish I could love the new MacBooks, but getting rid of all the ports and jacks is dumb and they should be ashamed. I need my multiple USB ports and SD card slot, dammit

We went today to ask some questions about iCloud and family accounts. They said there was a 2-3 hour wait to talk to somebody. Probably less if I said that I was there to drop $2000.

Haha could have tried. The computers get reebooted throughout the day and restored to how they were. Otherwise they would get filled up with so much junk in a matter of days.
